This is a question for the Scottish people on my flist.

[livejournal.com profile] jacqui_hw and I were watching QI tonight and they were talking about deep fried mars bars. Jacqui said she's heard of deep fried coke but couldn't figure out how that works

Anyone heard of it or can shed any light?

Edit: Mystery solved!

Of course it's an American thing ;)

Nope! They roll hard ice cream in dough and then flash-fry it for about 15 seconds, long enough for the dough to fry. It's sooooo good.

You usually find fried ice cream in Mexican restaurants. Some places roll the ice cream in corn flakes, instead of dough, and some in coconut. Sometimes get chocolate coating as well.

There is also tempura ice cream in some Japanese restaurants, which is similar.

You can tell, I've researched the subject.

I prefered the Curly-Wurly deep-fried over the Mars Bar.

Mmmmm, light, caramelly and full of deep-fried goodness!

There is no shame when it comes to ice cream.

Now, shameful is admitting that I'd probably like fried coke (sounds like what we call elephant ears).

But I'll never admit that, not even if you torture me with fried ice cream.
