OMG look an actual update that isn't a fic rec post!

So last weekend I went to the Nine Worlds convention down in London. While I knew some people who were going I was essentially there by myself. I used to do cons by myself a lot back before I had UK-based fandom friends but it's been a while. I wasn't so much worried as not sure what to expect, especially given several friends had said last year's wasn't the best.

I had the best time!

I won't bore you all with the minutiae but I'll summarise the best (and not so best) parts of my experiences at the con

This is going to be a rather brief report since I skipped out on most of the con for reasons which I will explain below the cut

Hello!

I am back from A7 and have finished my exchange trip with oddlyfamiliar so I finally have time to write up my report. Except I really don't have that much to report.

I can't remember if I mentioned it on here but a few weeks ago oddlyfamiliar and I decided it would be fun to do a Random Acts event at A7 so we spent most of the weekend randomly (and kindly) giving away Random Acts merchandise to passers by and having twitter contests with items signed by Misha as prizes. So that ended up taking up most of my time. Totally worth it though.

This is going to sound really weird but I actually found it more fun than the con itself. I got to meet loads of new people, chat to them and generally have fun while making people smile. It really reminded me why I wanted to be part of this org in the first place. I like making people happy.

I didn't ditch the con entirely. I went to both of Misha's panels, did a couple of photo ops and got autographs so I can at least talk about those and share my pics

I should probably preface this by saying I was not particularly looking forward to A5. I was looking forward to seeing all my friends but in terms of the actual con I wasn't really that bothered. Having met half the guests at Chicon (would have been 4/6 if Richard hadn't dropped out) I just felt like kind of a creeper seeing them again just a couple of weeks later and coupled with the fact I had heard nothing but horror stories about Rogue Events I was just not feeling much at all about it.

Well, how wrong could I be? I may have been the exception but I had no problems at all with anything and all the guests were amazing. I think I would say it's the best con I've been to. It's certainly the best SPN con I've been to.

Okay, this is the big one

So spnpermanon has been deleted. I know some of you used to frequent there a lot (hell, I used to spend a lot of time lurking there myself) but in all honesty from my perspective I consider this a good thing. For all the lulz there was an equal amount of bitching and wank-baiting and that's not what fandom is about.

In other news wincon is over. I had an absolute blast but at the same time I have learned that doing two cons consecutively is stupid. I managed fine when I did Polaris immediately followed by Vulkon Tampa back in 2003 but I am older and less sturdy now. I think part of it is because I'm sick but I have spent the last couple of days just feeling exhausted which meant I didn't enjoy things as much as I could.

It was fun though and I made loads of new friends. Totally missed talking to longsufferingly who I think is the only flistie I didn't get to talk to. Everyone was really friendly and awesome and I'm thrilled I finally got to meet vichan in person.

Initially the plan was that sinnerforhire and I would spend the next couple of days sightseeing in Chicago but we didn't realise how far out of town this hotel is. It's not really near anything which makes getting anywhere pretty impossible without a car (or a really expensive cab ride) so we're just going to hang out here. The hotel has a hot tub and a pool, and is right next to a mall for cheap eating. Honestly, I'm kind of looking forward to a couple of days of doing nothing before I fly home.

I can catch up on my DCBB reading if nothing else *g*

Greetings from wincon

Well, this is certainly an experience and by experience I mean awesome. Fangirls are amazing.

I was a little worried about not knowing many people here but apparently I have had some sort of personality transplant because I have happily been talking to everyone and anyone. LOL!

But despite that I do know people here. vichan decided to come at the last minute and she is awesome. We are co-writing Dean/Cas badfic for the contest so you should be afraid *g*

We also had a mini-Smallville gathering last night as I met talitha78 and svmadelyn and we hung out for a while.

I met kijikun at Chicon last weekend so we've been hanging out here a lot.

Actually, I've just realised that vichan is the one who dragged me into the Dean/Cas fandom and kijikun is the one who got me shipping Sam/Gabriel. I don't even know who got me shipping Sassy. I think I did that one by myself.

But everyone is awesome and friendly and I met two Brits last night so we were talking about the strangeness of America.

My panel starts in just under an hour so I'm having some quiet time before I have to go and be loud and sociable again. I'm kind of nervous but the two co-panelists I've met are chatty and awesome so I think it'll go really well. Cross your fingers for me.

AND TONIGHT I GET TO WATCH SPN AT THE NORMAL TIME WITH A BUNCH OF FANGIRLS \O/
