Captain America: Civil War
Apr. 29th, 2016 03:56 amI just got back from a midnight screening of Civil War. It's nearly 4am and I have a lot of feelings
OMG! This movie was so awesome! Like more or less tied with Winter Solider levels of awesome! This is just a bunch of disjointed thoughts as I think of them.
All the things I was worried about (the ensemble cast and Spidey) ended up being AMAZING!
And the movie was FUNNY! Like I was expecting 3 hours of pain and angst and it really wasn't. I think the most upsetting thing, for me, was Steve crying at Peggy's funeral.
AND WOO HOO STEVE DIDN'T DIE!
T'Challa was magnificent! MAGNIFICENT! I am super excited for this movie now! They should have named this movie Captain America: T'Challa Gets Shit Done And Kicks Everyone's Asses :D
Argh I loved it so much!
I'm a little sad they've put Bucky back on ice. I thought he was going to be part of the team now. Does anyone know if Sebstan is set to do any more MCU movies in the near future?
I kind of love how easily Steve and Bucky fell back into their friendship. They've both clearly been thinking a lot about what happened in Winter Soldier and decided to just get on with it. There was that one conversation in the Quinjet and then they just got on with it, falling back into the old banter *draws hearts all over them*
And I also love they've started hinting at future Wanda/Vision. They are kind of adorable even when they were on opposing teams.
Clint was wonderful. "I leave for five minutes and everything falls apart." I kind of love that even though Steve and Tony are the team dads Clint is there as IDK the snarky uncle. And I love that his friendship with Wanda has carried over from Age of Ultron.
I was so dubious about Spidey but he was wonderful! The whole cinema was laughing through pretty much the whole scene with him and Tony. I'm going to have to see it again just to catch all the dialogue I missed because we were all laughing. When Tony showed Peter the video of him as Spidey and said 'is this you?' a dude in the audience yelled 'YEAH!' and we all cracked up. So great!
And I think above all that despite all the PR 'you must choose a side' bullshit there actually is no right side. I could see both sides of it and neither of them were 100% correct.
OMG and Sam and Bucky giving Steve the nod of approval after he kissed Sharon. Amazing! I REALLY hope we get a movie with Steve, Sam and Bucky being snarky bros who give each other shit about everything all the time.
Okay, I think that's it for now. No doubt I will have more thoughts after I've slept

Date: 2016-05-01 03:20 am (UTC)I liked that Steve knew Bucky was lying when he said he didn't know him. That whole scene starting with Buck buying plums was fucking perfect. I like that he was living on his own, staying low and no one could find him. I loved him just turning up behind Steve while Steve was looking at one of the note books. I loved them fighting the way out of there.
The bike stuff, ugh.
I was hoping we wouldn't have to see him killing Howard and Maria but i guess it worked plot wise. The face that Tony had to watch it was devastating. Speaking of Tony, that 'flashback' fake scene with young Tony was amazing. I've seen Robert at that age and it was really so much him. I was sad we didn't get a little Steve flashback but I guess they did this instead, it's the same level of special effects.
I loved T'Challa so much and I enjoyed the Spidey stuff though I didn't think I was going to. There's a bunch of stuff I don't get but I'll watch it again before I go too much in to that. How Tony thought it was important that people get trained and overseen and then dragged a minor in without his guardian's knowledge is beyond me.
I like that both sides made sense though they spent a hell of a lot of time justifying Tony's position and not much on Steve's. I mean I get why he didn't want to sign it but they didn't go in to it much.
I cried at Peggy's funeral but a lot of that was because Peggy. I was fucking ecstatic though that they gave Steve's speech from the comics about planting yourself for the right thing to Peggy and that Sharon got to read it out to Steve just when he needed it. Do as Peggy says Steve!!
I loved the scene in the tiny car with Sam and Bucky after Steve kisses Sharon. Their proud little faces. I loved that they put three big men inside a beetle. I've sat in the back of one of those and barely had room for my short little legs. I wish we'd seen more of them in the car ride though.
There's so much missing that I hope fanfic can fill.
it was devastating watching Bucky put himself back on ice but he kept saying he didn't want to kill anyone and that scene where Zemo started reading the words and Bucky knew what was going to happen, that was heart breaking and with the book still out there and Zemo still alive he couldn't risk it happening again.
Going to watch it again on Tuesday. I'll write up a post after that.
