Something which has only just occurred to me. The creators of Merlin have openly said that the show was inspired by Smallville. Now, look at Merlin's preferred wardrobe: Red shirt and blue neckscarf or blue shirt and red neckscarf

They're not even trying here, are they. LOL! What next: Arthur goes bald?

I swear to god, in 1x11, Arthur is wearing purple. I think I died. (And also really wanted to come up with some clever way to make crossover, but alas! I am not that smart. T_T )

But seriously, somewhere we need to make a post and just discuss all the ways Merlin = Smallville. <3

ETA: Proof! The purple! Witness it! \0/ *flails*

[fibre geek]Purple is traditionally a royal colour because it was one of the hardest and most expensive colours to dye. It makes sense that Arthur would wear it, and it's associations with luxury (and the roman emporers, who were the only ones allowed to wear purple togas) mean its perfect for Lex as well. [/fibre geek]

Plus, its a good colour for both Lex and Arthur anyway.

Arthur certainly looks as good in it as Lex does

*wants more Arthur in purple*

=D Fibre geeks are totally okay with me! (My mother is a quilter and general-fabric-related-stuff enthusiast, so I totally grew up around fibre geeks.)

It's definitely an appropriate color, and it makes total sense that Arthur, being crown prince, might have purple in his wardrobe. I just find the color parallels between Merlin and Smallville endlessly amusing. XD *has actually been sekritly paying attention to the colors from the beginning, and will someday put together a picspam of The Red Shirt and who is wearing it when*

And it's true, they both do look quite good in it. =3 *privately thinks both Bradley and Michael would look good in anything, and also nothing*

*is kind of a perv* XD

*Is totally there with you.

I love the red shirt as well, especially as it seems to get more and more open-necked as the series progresses.

Meh, depends on the shade of purple. I would imagine it's not terribly difficult to overdye woad with madder or vice versa.
