That was awful! Really, really, really awful.

In fact it wasn't even an Indiana Jones movie, it was a preview for The X-Files.

Was George Lucas on crack when he decided to make this about aliens?

Weirdly the best thing about it was Shia LaBeouf and half the time he had nothing to do

All attempts at amusing snark between Indy and Marian fell flat, Mac was a two-dimensional villain and Cate Blanchett, who we all know can act, was somehow rendered as flat and boring as everyone else.

The plot was incoherent and strung together by action scenes and CGI, and even the little in-jokes like the Ark showing up in the warehouse were crap

For a while I thought it was me just letting Iron Man overshadow everything but [livejournal.com profile] jacqui_hw hated it too.

Putting aside the insane abount of squeeing I've been doing, really, don't waste your money. Go and see Iron Man (again) instead.

So true.

Someone needs to stop George Lucas.

You'd think he'd have learned his lesson after The Phantom Menace

I didn't think it was quite that bad, but it was possibly the stupidest film I have ever seen (with the exception of Boxing Helena).

The alien plot was so not right for Indy. And the skull looked like it was made of plastic and stuffed with polythene bags. Which it probably was.

I can forgive the cardboard villains, because that's what an Indy film is about, but I'm afraid I lost all belief in the plot with the fridge.

Oh dear, someone else who has seen Boxing Helena!

Agreed about the alien plot. Indy has always been a bit of a cynic so there's just no way he'd travel across the world chasing alien relics.

And yes, cardboard villains are an Indy trait!!

Boxing Helena was the funniest film I have ever seen! It was so appalling it was fantastic!

The CGI gophers or whatever they were did it for me

Someone needs to put George Lucas out of our misery.

I totally disagree. Except about the cardboard villains... which to be fair are always how Indy films work. I really enjoyed it and the filmography and stunts (actual stunt work in a blockbuster!) were great, classy and very much a hark back to the originals.

Ok, I will conceed about the villains but I hated the rest of it

Gosh yes, I loved the stunt work. Hey now your dad and I have seen it we can discuss. :)

I thought Cate Blanchett was a great villianess and agree you don't expect to find depth in an Indy villian.

I saw Indy today, and enjoyed it. But I probably won't see it again till it hits DVD.

Hehe! I won't be buying the DVD

I have to say I did really enjoy it up until the point where we found out that it really was all about aliens. I wanted some more rational, or at least earth-based explanation. The fact that all of the magnetism stuff hurt my physics I can deal with (I'm used to shoving my inner physicist in a box for sci-fi and action films), but the alien skeletons that looked like perpex, not so much.

Also, the wedding didn't happen in my head

Oh, yes, totally agree about the wedding

Except that for Lucas and Spielberg both their love has been for SF. To me it felt like an homage to CE3K.

Sad thing is - I've seen numerous negative reviews, and I'm still going to see it regardless. It's just, well....it's Indy damnit!

Yeah, I think I'd have done the same. I'm glad I saw it even if it was bad

Not everyone thought it was bad. I loved it. A real return to the excitement of Raiders.

It was painful...aliens? Like really? Then I found out Lucas attempted to send Indy to space. WTF? Space? I want to give Harrison Ford a hug because it could have been much much worse.

There was something about Shia in that that just made me happy. And strangely I approved of him not getting the hat. He can NOT have the hat...yet.

Yeah, the ending (apart from the wedding) was one of the few things I liked about it

You're the first person I've read who didn't like it.

Wild horses couldn't keep me away from seeing Harrison Ford on the big screen as Indiana Jones again, I don't care about plot. I don't go to see Indy movies for the plot, I go see 'em for Harrison as Indiana; starts and stops there for me with those films!

Indiana Jones has always been a creative collaboration between Lucas and Spielberg and the aliens just made so much sense for Spielberg given his long term interest in the subject and having made the 2 iconic films of the 20th century on the subject.

I loved it.

Hehe! I'm starting to think it's just me and Jacqui who hated it

I just don't think aliens belong in Indy's world
