So, it turns out that the panic last week wasn't entirely unjustified

I know a lot of people are talking about leaving LJ in favour of other journal sites but I don't see how that is going to help. The issues here are of a legal nature and that's not going to go away just because it's not on LJ.

I'm puzzled as to how this stands, legally, actually. Yes, incest is illegal. But surely that is just the practise of incest. I don't see how writing about it breaks any law.

Does that mean if you write stories involving drug abuse that the author should be arrested? No. Films and books are produced all the time that portray illegal activity. Whoever it is that made this complaint doesn't have a leg to stand on as far as I'm concerned

I don't know how well off LJ is as a company but if I were them I'd get some lawyers involved.

It's fiction people!

Saw this in [livejournal.com profile] bagheera_san's journal

Replace all your LJ interests with "freedom of speech".

A thought

To those who have f-locked your journals in light of recent events, I'm fairly sure that won't stop the LJ Admin peeps being able to view it if they wanted to

The only thing it will prevent is people from outside LJ viewing it

Yes, my journal is f-locked but it has been for years owing to a totally unrelated incident whereby I was getting malicious comments posted in my journal

Just a thought anyway

[livejournal.com profile] bookshop has done a great post about the latest goings on and what we can do about it to try and help make things better

Read it here.

Yes, I am harping on about this a lot when at this stage relatively little has happened. I'm not the sort of person who can just sit around because it doesn't affect me (I'm not in the SPN or HP fandoms which seem to be the ones being targeted at the moment). I just want to do things to nip this in the bud before things go properly insane.

So expect more posts like this in the future. If all I can do is keep people informed then that's something.

Edit: Here's another post

Leave a comment and ask that LJ at the very least issue an official statement regarding the account deletions. So far they have told us nothing.

Be counted

[livejournal.com profile] vichan has created a new community

[livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts

What it is: Fandom, stand up and be counted.

At the moment, that's ALL that it is. Nothing more, nothing less. Currently, there is no posting access, no rules, no interests listed.

All I'm asking is that if you consider yourself a part of any fandom, please join, be counted, and pimp.

Why? Exactly how many of us ARE there in fandom? SPN has thousands. I know HP has thousands of thousands. Livejournal has 13 million journals created. How many of those are members of fandom?

Why make this on Livejournal instead of GreatestJournal? Because LJ is the one at stake right now. Getting a body count on GJ won't help very much.

I am enjoying The OC much more than I enjoyed Veronica Mars

Ryan and Seth's boylove is a thing of joy and I've fancied Peter Gallagher since I saw While You Were Sleeping many years ago

The only downside is Marissa is a Lana

I am in no way converting my friends to my anarchistic ways ;)

I've found a list of all the LJs that are known to have been deleted. Some say it's a drop in the ocean when you look at it against the 13 million LJs in existence but still...

http://pedoblogtracker.blogspot.com/

Looking at the names I'm sure a lot of them did genuinely need deleting but still...

Right, I need to go to bed now. After I cheered myself up by plotting silliness with [livejournal.com profile] danceswithgary too :(
