My thoughts on what's happening in fandom
May. 30th, 2007 07:36 amSo, it turns out that the panic last week wasn't entirely unjustified
I know a lot of people are talking about leaving LJ in favour of other journal sites but I don't see how that is going to help. The issues here are of a legal nature and that's not going to go away just because it's not on LJ.
I'm puzzled as to how this stands, legally, actually. Yes, incest is illegal. But surely that is just the practise of incest. I don't see how writing about it breaks any law.
Does that mean if you write stories involving drug abuse that the author should be arrested? No. Films and books are produced all the time that portray illegal activity. Whoever it is that made this complaint doesn't have a leg to stand on as far as I'm concerned
I don't know how well off LJ is as a company but if I were them I'd get some lawyers involved.
It's fiction people!
