The Afternoon
Jun. 12th, 2006 07:36 amWell, ysterday evening was just as productive as the rest of the day. LOL. I lounged around because it was too damn hot to do anthing else. Eventually I put a DVD and we watched The Great Race. It was very silly. I love Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon.
Then we watched The Lady and the Highwayman. It's quite distressing to discover that a film you loved as a child is in fact really really bad. It kept us entertained for a couple of hours though
After that Jacqui and I sat on our balcony and watched a variety of dramas unfolding in the street below us. Who need a television when there are chavs to watch.

Books I've read this year
Jun. 12th, 2006 08:14 am1. The Lost Slayer - Christopher Golden
2. Lost Souls - Poppy Z. Brite
3. Little Things - Rececca Moesta
4. The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown
5. Dragonflight - Anne McCaffrey
6. Birds Without Wings - Louis De Bernieres
7. Resurrection Men - Ian Rankin
8. There And Back Again - Sean Astin
9. Bear - Jamie Smart
10. Preacher: Gone to Texas - Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon
11. Preacher: Until The End Of The World - Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon
12. Preacher: Proud Americans - Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon
13. Preacher: Dixie Fried - Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon
14. Preacher: Ancient History - Garth Ennis, Steve Pugh, Carlos Ezquerra & Richard Case
15. Books of Magic: Death After Death - John Nev Reiber, Peter Gross, Jill Thompson & Richard Case
The Books of Magic book was a bit weird. I think I would have understood it better if I'd read it from the beginning but I was told it worked as a stand alone, which I suppose it did to an extent
Next is Preacher: War in the Sun

We've just got the bond back from my old house and included was an invoice for the following
£17 for hoover tool that was missing - if I find it I'm posting it back to her.
£2 for a replacement bulb for the dining room
Carpet cleaning - £30 (fair enough)
Oven cleaning - £30
Bathroom cleaning - £20
Replacement batteries for doorbell -£6
1. Lightbulbs do NOT cost £2. They're about 50p
2. I spent 40 mins cleaning that oven and even if it was still a bit grubby there's no way it costs £30 to clean it
3. There was NOTHING wrong with the bathroom and again it wouldn't cost £20 to have it cleaned.
4. Batteries? WTF? They don't cost £6 for a start
If we don't pay the bill in 8 days then we'll be charged 20% interest. You get better interest rates than that from a bloody loan shark!
God my landlady is such a bitch. I'm so glad we're away from her. I love my new flat.

It rained this morning and was nice and cool. Now the sun has come out again as I suspect I will boil to death when I walk home from work tonight
Don't get my wrong, I prefer the heat to it being cold but it just makes me so sleepy and I'm finding it really hard to concentrate at work. I'm not leaving for another 2hrs 45mins.
The flat is going to be like an oven when I get in as all the windows will have been shut all day
*dies*

Fannish stuff
Jun. 12th, 2006 10:39 pmJacqui met Billy tonight. I'm surprised I couldn't hear the squee from here. LOL
It's funny, but we were talking last night and there really isn't one person I'm desperate to meet now. Realistically I'm never going to meet any of my top 5 celebs because they're all too famous
I'd quite like to meet Jamie and some of the other BSG cast but I'm not desperate or anything. Same with the cast of Firefly. In fact I haven't felt really fannish about anything for ages. Can't remember the last time I read a fanfic story, it's been even longer since I wrote anything other than the odd drabble
Maybe I'm broken...
Does anyone know of any UK based sci-fi/fantasy conventions that are decent? I was kind of counting on going to Collectormania in October but it clashes with my holiday so that won't be happening. I would like to go to some sort of event this year
