On Friday I got a text from my uni bestie saying she wasn't well but that her son (who I call my nephew) would be sad if I didn't come for my weekly visit and would I mind coming anyway if she isolated upstairs. She said she'd taken a covid test and it was negative (I think you see where this is going).

When I arrived she wasn't isolating upstairs and she sat with us while we played video games and did our usual hanging out activities.

This morning she texted to say she was now testing positive after a negative test yesterday

Fuck.

I've taken a test and it's negative but we'll see what happens I guess.

I suppose it's inevitable. I've managed to go 3 years without catching it but it was only a matter of time.

But, you never know. Her son had it last year and it was pretty much the same situation. I spent Friday evening hanging out with him and on Sunday he tested positive. So maybe I'll get lucky and manage to avoid it again.

And, of course, I have a friend visiting from Scotland on Monday that I haven't seen since before the pandemic. Stellar timing.

Ugh, no. I hope you're lucky and don't catch it this time, either!

Ugh. The later variants, like Omicron, do seem to have a fairly high rate of false negative tests. All you can really do is wait.

If you're jabbed it's likely that you'll get false negatives, so you could have it and be completely unaware if you're symptomless. I think it's inevitable that people will get it at this point as there's no isolation and no rules in place to encourage people to even take a test. Hopefully, if you do it'll be mild (I've had it twice and it was just like a summer cold).

arrrrggghh.... it's probably too early to get a positive test. I think the ones we have in the US are most reliable 5-7 days after infection?

fingers crossed that you didn't get it though.

I am crossing my fingers for you. It seems that a lot of people I know who have been COVID free so far are either having scares or getting it lately.
