Fandoms I wouldn't have expected to write this year:

Well, I only wrote in 2 fandoms but I hadn't even heard of Kei x Yaku before I watched the drama so definitely that one

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?

It's about the same as I wrote in 2021, but that's more than I expected. Because the Sundial Exchange didn't run in 2022 I was expecting to write less. I didn't anticipate the 60k longfic though :D

What's your own favourite story of the year, the one you're proudest of?

Oh, I am incredibly proud of Juxtaposition. I've never written anything even close to that sort of length before and for it to be an AU on top of that. Very proud. I may never do anything like that again but I am proud.

My best story of this year:

Best is such a relative term. Maybe Alone With You? I feel like I did a good job of getting inside Huo Daofu's head

My most popular story of this year:

Amazingly it's Sharing is Caring. I think probably because so few people were writing English fics in the Kei x Yaku fandom rather than it being better than anything else I wrote

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

I feel like I'll sound ungrateful to those people who did kudos/comment. And, honestly, for a small fandom the numbers on all my fics aren't terrible so I'll leave it at that.

Story that could have been better?

I'll always think all my fics can be improved on. I wouldn't have posted if I wasn't happy with it.

Most fun story to write:

Home Alone. I had so much fun coming up with ridiculous ways for Wu Xie and Pangzi's plans to have sex to get derailed

Sexiest story/story with the single sexiest moment:

I only wrote one sexually explicit fic so by virtue of it being the only one Unseen Heart

Hardest story to write:

Oh Juxtaposition without a doubt. Writing longfic is hard and stressful

Favorite title:

Varying Degrees made me laugh in the context of the fic

Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

From Alone With You

He’s good enough at playing the role of the bastard, of acting like he doesn’t care about anyone or anything. Unfortunately Wu Xie knows him well enough to see past the facade, and he knows exactly what to say to get past Huo Daofu’s carefully cultivated brittle exterior. All he has to do is mention how it could be dangerous, and wouldn’t it be better if Huo Daofu was there to take care of the less experienced members of the group. Then he’ll casually drop the name of someone who Huo Daofu actually likes for good measure, saying how terrible it would be if Bai Haotian or Li Jiale or Liu Sang got hurt and there was no doctor around.

Huo Daofu might act like a bastard, but Wu Xie is one, and Huo Daofu swears he will die one day cursing that man’s name.

Which work of yours have you reread the most?

Juxtaposition but only as refreshers and when I was editing it. I don't tend to re-read my own fics often because I just see all the flaws. Once it's posted that's it for me.

What do you listen to while writing?

I work best without distractions, so: nothing.

Biggest surprise while writing this year?

That I was capable of not only starting but also finishing a long AU

Did you take any writing risks this year? Did you learn anything from them?

I don't think so? I dabbled in some new pairings but I don't know that I'd call that a risk. What even is risky in fic writing? Isn't the point just to do what you want to do?

Pairing/character you wrote the most for this year?

Wang Pangzi was the character by a considerable amount. I love him and I love writing him. In terms of pairing I think it's pretty even between Wang Pangzi/Wu Xie/Zhang Qiling and gen fics. I wrote a fair number of both

Favorite pairing/pairing you wrote for this year?

I had a lot of fun writing Wang Can/Wang Pangzi. I will probably play with that ship again this year at some point

What work was the quickest to write?

I think most of the Kei x Yaku fics I bashed out in a day or two. They were quick and easy little missing scene oneshots

What work took you the longest to write?

Juxtaposition just for the sheer length

Leitmotif(s) of the year:

Ooh I'm not sure. Pangzi being warm and cuddly and feeling of home and safety for other characters is probably a big one

Did you write any gifts this year?

I did! I took part in a few exchanges and also wrote a birthday gift for a friend. They're all listed above so I won't list them again.

Pairing you want to explore next year?

I've signed up for the HeiHua Exchange already and I'm looking forward to writing them. They've only ever been a background pairing in my fics before

Do you have any goals for 2023?

Honestly I'm feeling kind of burned out after the longfic so I think my goal is just to stick to my daily 20 min writing sprints and not put pressure on myself to write the same amount that I did the past couple of years
