YEAR IN FANDOM MEME 2022
Jan. 18th, 2023 06:40 pmI've had this open in a tab since the start of the year and I should probably do it before January is actually over.
1. Your main fandom of the year?
Still DMBJ. I love these idiot tomb raiders.
2. Your favorite film watched this year?
Lighting Up The Stars - Freely admit I watched this because of Zhu Yilong but wasn't prepared for how beautifully written and acted it was. I can see why he's won so many awards for it.
3. Your favorite book read this year?
All I read last year was the DMBJ novels (there's so many) and a book for our newly founded LGBTQ+ Network book club. So I guess I'll go with that. It was And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I was familiar with the story thanks to seeing a couple of TV and movie adaptations but that didn't stop the book from being really unsettling and atmospheric. Very well written.
4. Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Funnily enough I just went through my Apple Music Replay (their version of Spotify Wrapped) at the weekend so I can answer this easily. The song I listened to by far more than any other was Turbulence by ATEEZ. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is about this song that moved me so much but I get super emotional whenever I listen to it even though I don't understand most of the lyrics
And in terms of album the one I listened to most was Trickster by ONEUS. One of my favourite k-pop groups and I thoroughly enjoyed every track on this album
5. Your favorite TV show of the year?
Hmm...favourite and best are two very different things for me :D
Okay, taking the question literally my favourite thing that I watched was Not Me. It's kind of a silly plot (boy takes the place of his twin brother in a gang of social justice vigilantes and falls in love with the boy most suspicious of him) but I loved it so much. It's my benchmark for Thai BL dramas now.
(The best show I watched was Beyond Evil and I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it. It's on Netflix and it's incredibly well written and acted)
6. Your favorite LJ community of the year?
I haven't been on LJ since cross-posting from LJ broke, and I wasn't really active in any comms even before that
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
I don't know that I had one? I watch lots of new TV shows but I was mostly in my old fandom sandbox. Oh, actually, I know! The vidding community. I tagged along (virtually) to VidUKon last year and while I don't think I have the time commitment or inclination to take up vidding myself I met some lovely people who I still chat to now
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
IDK the usual fandom nonsense continued to be disappointing but there wasn't a specific event that stands out. I mostly just hang out in my little corner and my current fandom is too small for any sort of major drama.
9. Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
I mean it's always Zhu Yilong but 2022 was the year I fell hard for Chen Chuhe (and his Real Hair). It started when I watched Heroes (the Chinese period drama not the American superhero show), then I watched Bromance which just cemented my love, and finally I started to re-watch The Lost Tomb Reboot and had an entirely newfound appreciation for him (and his Real Hair)

10. Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
I rediscovered my love for Anneka Rice through a series of random events. May have accidentally called her my wife when talking to my dad

11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Zhu Yilong winning the Golden Rooster and Chen Minghao being first on his feet to cheer for him was pretty incredible
12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
I have a soft spot for all my old fandoms. I think I'd like to go back and write some Guardian at some point but I need the right idea to bite first.
13. The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
I'm pretty happy where I am
14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
I think we should be getting the Tibeta Sea Flower adaption at some point this year. Excited about that but also wary. These things rarely go as planned (the exception being the HeiHua movie from last year which was perfect).

Date: 2023-01-19 07:27 pm (UTC)I haven’t read it yet nor seen it, I think. But I’ve heard a lot about how good it is and have put the latest (? I think) BBC mini series for it on my wishlist.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about it! I really must get around to watching some of those Thai BL dramas, they seem often to be quite good! Beyond Evil I’ve got here, likely a show I’ll get to this year.

A lot of them are a little on the cheesy side but there are some good ones. Not Me is my favourite but there were a few others that I watched last year that I enjoyed
