1. Tokyo Godfathers - I knew nothing about this before we watched it for tonight's movie night. I didn't even realise it was animated until it started. I loved it! Nice to see a trans character who not only lives but also saves the day.
2. Ghostbusters Afterlife - I absolutely loved this! It managed to capture all the joy and nostalgia of the first two movies while feeling fresh at the same time. You can tell a lot of love for the franchise went into this.
3. Hamilton - I'm not sure thAis counts as a movie because it's just a recording of the broadway show, but it's as long as a movie so I'm including it here. When this dropped on Disney+ in 2020 I was right in the depths of lockdown depression and when I was feeling better I just never got around to it. I listened to the soundtrack obsessively back when it was at its most popular, and I've seen the show in London, but never with the original cast. I loved it! The show in London was fine, but there's no denying the original cast was something special.
4. Mystic Nine: Qing Shan Hai Tang - I've been looking forward to this ever since the trailer dropped and it did not disappoint. Full of nonsense, Zhu Zanjin and Liu Chang both looked great, sexual tension through the roof, big cgi monster at the end. Everything I wanted and then some.
5. Tomb of the Sea: Ran Gu - Another silly tombs spinoff movie that I watched because the lead character is in a fic I'm currently writing and I wanted to do some research. It was very silly, but not as silly as the one about haunted paint that I watched last year :D
6. Turning Red - I absolutely loved this! A real flashback to what I was like as a 13 year old. All the characters were great, the story was great. It was wonderful
7. Spider-Man: No Way Home - I always think that I'm done with Marvel and that the MCU just isn't something that interests me anymore, but whenever I watch a movie I do end up enjoying it. This was a lot of fun. I loved seeing the Spider-Man from the other movie franchises. Andrew Garfield was great, and he had wonderful chemistry with Toby Maguire.
8. Too Cool to Kill - I'll admit I only wanted to watch this because Chen Minghao is in it, but it is SO FUN. That might be the most fun I've had watching a movie this year and Chen Minghao isn't even in it that much. I'm trying to get my sister to watch it because there's so many nods to western movies I think she'll love it.
9. Infernal Affairs - I'm not generally a fan of undercover cop movies, but this was pretty good as far as the genre goes. It had some interesting twists which kept things interesting. I thought I might be able to use it to practice my Mandarin but the movie is in Cantonese :D
10. Odd Thomas - What I like about our weekly work movie nights is that we often watch old favourites but occasionally someone will pick something the rest of us haven't seen before. I'd never even heard of this movie before we watched it and it was fantastic! Really enjoyed it! It was sort of half detective story half supernatural thriller. Anton Yelchin was great in it. Such a tragedy what happened to him.

11. Lighting Up the Stars - I loved this way more than I expected to. I have sat through some nonsense for Zhu Yilong but this was a beautiful movie about family, grief and death. I cried a lot, but in a good way.
12. Source Code - Another one that we watched for our weekly work movie nights that I knew nothing about. It was good! Really interesting idea and well acted.
