No Power

Fun adventure today.

Woke up this morning and my alarm hadn't gone off. Didn't really think much of it and just assumed I'd forgotten to set it. It was only when I went to turn on the lamp that I realised the power was off.

Reported it to Northern Power and they talked me through some things to check before determining it wasn't an issue at their end and suggested I call my landlord to come and have a look at it.

Called them (and got lucky because the office closed an hour after I called) and they also got me to check some things and send them a photo of the meter and fuse box.

Finally at about 1pm an electrician showed up. He was really lovely and within 2 seconds said 'oh, I see what the problem is' and flipped a switch (a different one to the one both Northern Power and the letting agent told me to flip) and the power came back on.

I felt very bad for dragging him out on a Saturday for such a simple fix but he was really nice and said at least it was something easy and that I wasn't to know. He showed me what to do if it goes off again but I've been running things for a few hours now and it seems to be fine.

Of course that killed most of the plans I had today. I managed to get my Chinese practice done on my phone and then I just read a book for a while.

Now I need to get on with some writing and I had plans to finish the k-drama I'm watching today so I shall crack on with that after dinner.

So glad the electrician could fix it easily, but the stress of it...! And the disruption! I hope you can have a nice weekend after this.

Everything seems to be fine today, thankfully. Was half convinced whatever tripped the switch overnight was going to do it again. Seems to be good though.

Sounds like an nice electrician and at least you know what to do if it happens again. Any idea what caused it?

Electrian's best guess was some sort of power surge but no idea what caused it or what set it off.

Oh wow, so stressful, even with an easy fix! I hope you can get some quiet time without disruptions to get back to your plans!

At least it was an easy fix! But yeah, no-one needs that kind of stress on a Saturday. :/

I am glad that it was a quick fix, but power outages are annoying. (I live in an area with a corrupt and incompetent power company so I can completely sympathize with your annoyance.)
