The Rebel

After several friend raved about how good The Rebel was I decided to give it a try, and they weren't wrong. I'm only a few episodes in but I was expecting...I'm not sure really. I think I was expecting it to be darker than it is. I mean, it's dark, but a bearable amount. So far it has mostly been spy adventures. It's pretty gripping stuff.

I'm also very excited that a new/old tomb show has started airing. It's a sequel to The Lost Tomb 2 that was made in 2018 but has only just been released. One of my favourite actors from Love and Redemption is playing Wu Xie (the main lead) and I'm delighted.

I'm especially happy that my old gang who watched all the other tomb shows with me is getting back together to watch this one. We're starting on Saturday and we're taking it slow instead of cramming several episodes into a day. It was fine during lockdown when no one had anything else to do but I think people are wanting a bit more free time now instead of a distraction.

It'll be fun!

I'm also currently editing my 10yearpromise fic and I'm almost done. The first draft is 10k and the edited version is looking like it'll come in somewhere between 12 and 13k, which will make it my longest Lost Tomb fic. I'm not sure where all these words have come from given I had no idea what to do with my prompts at first. I just hope they are good words. I've reached the point now where I've been working on it for so long I'm not convinced it's any good. Hopefully my beta (thank you teyla) will be able to either reassure me or tell me what needs fixing. There's still a couple of weeks until the deadline so I'm not too worried.

Yeah, the Rebel is less grim than I thought it would be, at least for now. And it's not like I'm proud of watching it, it's more of a guilt thing in fact, so I guess I can stop anytime. :) We'll see.

The way I look at it we get US propaganda shoved down our throats all the time in pretty much every movie or tv show to come out of that country. It's not all that different. So long as you recognise what you're watching I don't see the harm. But, personal choice and all that. If you're not comfortable with it there's absolutely no shame in stopping. I've quit shows for less than that in the past.

I'm pretty sure I won't quit it for the propaganda aspect (although that is the thing that's making me feel guilty), but for fear of the characters becoming too jaded and disillusioned by what life is going to throw at them.

I'm more of a fluff person, and I'm not sure I can handle the amount of whump that this show promises. (Also not a fan of torture, or guns... you get the gist.)

And you're right, going in with the awareness of it being propaganda is key. I don't think I was that aware of it with US shows from the start.

All of that is totally fair! Watching stuff should be fun (unless it's for school or work I guess) so if you're not enjoying something there's plenty of other things out there to watch <3
