Challenge #5

In your own space, promote a canon/talk about a part of canon that you love. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

You can't have fandom without canon, so there are aspects of all the shows and movies I've loved over the years that I think are fantastic.

I could talk about how Buffy/Spike hooked me on the enemies to lovers trope and that it's stuck with me for my entire fandom life.

I could talk about the fascinating idea of young adult Lex Luthor and fall into villainy in Smallville.

I could talk about Castiel giving up everything he's ever known for a man he came to love.

I could talk about a random SHIELD agent in Iron Man becoming so popular with fans that he was instrumental in bring the Avengers together and then got his own show even after his character had been killed off.

I could talk about Lan Wangji's grief, how he raised a child that wasn't his to keep some part of the man he loves close by, his unwavering refusal to leave Wei Wuxian's side after he got him back by some miracle.

I could talk about Shen Wei loving one man for 10,000 years and willing to risk everything to keep him safe.

But what I'm actually going to talk about is The Lost Tomb franchise because that's where I am right now.

I make fun of these shows a lot, because on the surface they are kind of ridiculous. They're edited badly, additional things get lost due to the censorship rules, most of them don't have a proper ending, but I love them all anyway.

At its heart this show is about a found family. Yes, Wu Xie has blood relatives who are still around (I don't think we've ever seen his parents but they're alive, and his uncles play significant roles in the stories) but really it's about his two closest friends. Whether you ship them or not Wu Xie, Pangzi and Xiaoge's love for each other is undeniable. I love watching shows where the main characters have each other's backs and take care of each other no matter what.

I love the adventure. These shows have ridiculous traps and crazy monsters. It reminds me of Indiana Jones and the other sort of adventure movies I used to love as a kid.

I love the whump. I don't think I've ever seen a series of shows where characters get poisoned, drugged, knocked out, have a variety of mystery illnesses, randomly get amnesia, and generally get put through the wringer. And, tying back to my first point, no matter who is hurt or sick there's always people there to take care of them and that's what I love about it. You get the hurt, but also the comfort.

I've watched just about all of the Lost Tomb shows with friends. Because they are just the sort of fun shows that are best enjoyed with others. Yes, we make fun of all the nonsense, but we love them too.

I'm not familiar with the show but it sounds fun to watch. I love shows where the main characters are always there for each other despite everything that goes on, it makes a show have so much warmth.

Wow, that sounds like the perfect show to do as a watch party! Assuming it falls into the predictable plot like Indiana Jones does, where you can chat a bit and not have to pay 100% attention to the screen

I can see how it fits in with all your other fandoms. I'll stick to Spuffy, I'm afraid. ;-)

[personal profile] naye has already been tempting me, and it does sound good, especially because it delivers the comfort in the show!

LOL at switching it up. *g* I did like this, however, I could talk about a random SHIELD agent in Iron Man becoming so popular with fans that he was instrumental in bring the Avengers together and then got his own show even after his character had been killed off. because YES!!!
