Challenge #4

In your own space, create some goals. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I had good intentions to set some New Year's Resolutions but the first full week back at work has been a struggle so I haven't done very well.

So, let's try again starting from Monday. Things I would like to achieve:

1. Practice Mandarin every day. I don't have the lofty goal of becoming fluent but it would be nice to get to the point where I can understand at least some of what they're saying in all the dramas I'm watching. I have a couple of apps on my phone to learn Mandarin and my parents got me a book and CD for my birthday in September which I haven't even opened yet.

2. Write at least 500 words per day. I miss writing, but when I try I get distracted by social media a lot. I'm very aware that my writing was at its best when I was doing it every day so I want to try and get back to that. I'm sure I can manage to avoid looking at Twitter or Discord for an hour.

I think I'm just going to stick to those two in order to make it achievable.

Check your DVD collection. Mandarin is a common 'extra' language. If you watch a movie you already know, with the Mandarin track on, that helps your brain make connections. You can also just turn the thing on and let in run the background. Not all language practice requires you to 'do' anything, just being around it helps. Live immersion is better, but canned will do.
