Checking In
Oct. 26th, 2020 04:19 pmHello, yes, I'm still alive.
Had another busy weekend watching things with various people, which is always nice.
On Saturday instead of playing Stardew Valley with Emma she invited me to join her for a Zoom call with several of her friends to watch a load of BTS videos. It was fun, and this is what I love about fandom. All Emma did was casually mention that I like BTS and a bunch of almost strangers invited me to hang out with them and watch things. It didn't matter what else we had in common, although they all seemed very nice. We're going to do it again some time.
And while we're on the subject of k-pop I've found another group I am very interested in. I started poking around listening to some of ONEUS last week and I like them a lot but what I really love is how epic their videos are. This one in particular is amazing! (CW for blood. Like, a lot of it, but in an artistic way?)
While I was listening to some of their Discography a friend on Twitter suggested I watch this and holy shit. They seem to be going for the dark, gothic aesthetic and I am here for it.
On Sunday
amedawg18 and I watched all their music videos, then we watched some youtubers reacting to their videos, then we watched a guide to get to know the members. Their leader is called Ravn which again tells you a lot about their overall tone. Of course because this is k-pop off camera they are adorable dorks who scream at jump scares and get excited about having glitter in their hair for one of their videos.
So, yes, I am rather attached even though I don't know all their names yet.
In TV news we finally finished The Lost Tomb Reboot! It was silly and weird and a lot of it didn't make sense but overall it had a mostly satisfying ending and I am going to miss my weekly dose of Zhu Yilong's face. We've started The Mystic Nine as our next weekend tomb raiding show and it looks like it's going to be good. We've only watched one episode so far but it's off to a promising start.
We've also started Gank Your Heart as our Saturday evening big group Yibo watch. There was a lot of us this week, I think because it was a new show, but that was nice. It's not a great show but it's already better than My Strange Friend.
And I'm still trundling along with Love and Redemption which continues to be delightful. I'm pretty much at the halfway point now so still lots to go.
I'm also making good progress with the Guardian novel. Having a book club style group read along was definitely a good idea as it's motivating me to read a bit every day.
And in personal news I think my parents are finally starting to accept that I'm not going to be there for Christmas. Dad messaged me at the weekend to say he's installed Zoom and can we do a test run before Christmas so he knows how to use it.
I've been sort in acceptance mode about the whole thing and then randomly today I was having a conversation on Twitter about rice of all things and I mentioned that my mum used to make me rice pudding as comfort food when I was a kid and suddenly I started crying. It's almost like grief. Just being set off by random things.
Anyway, I've decided that I'm probably going to find a nice airbnb for a few days over Christmas. Since Jacqui's parents have both had COVID already she's safe to visit them and I kind of don't want to spend Christmas at home by myself. I quite fancy staying somewhere near the sea so I'm going to see what's available on the coast.
