Well, it finally happened, something at work exploded. It could have been worse. By the time I was told our HR system was broken someone was already working on fixing it so all I had to do was send out an email communication letting everyone know. So I had a couple of minutes of minor panic and then sorted everything out. Typical that after a relatively quiet time of being in charge something breaks 2 days before my boss comes back.

Still, it's sorted, and hopefully that will be it. Fridays tend to be pretty quiet. A lot of people either take the day off or finish early. I've still got a bunch of little bits I said I'd do for my boss that I haven't got to yet so hopefully I'll be able to have a sort out day.

Tonight is movie night and so far I have no idea what we're going to be watching. The person whose turn it is to pick hasn't decided yet. So I guess it'll be a surprise.

Had a fairly productive writing session after work yesterday. Got 600 words written and I think I have maybe two scenes left to write. I don't know why but I seem to be incapable of writing short Untamed fics. I mean they're not long compared to a lot of the fics in this fandom but I thought this would be 2-3k and it's already at 5k and I'm not done yet. And when I edit I tend to add a lot of words so I'm guessing it'll end up around the 7-8k mark in the end which is long for me.

And, of course, I watched another episode of Lost Tomb after dinner. Despite the fact I've now got all of it available I'm still sticking with an episode per night as I've made plans to stream episode 16 and watch it with a Twitter friend on Saturday. We both started watching the show at around the same time and we've been pretty much keeping pace with each other so I thought it would be fun to watch one together and yell in real time. It means I won't be able to keep pausing it to livetweet but I will take notes and do a retrospective 'live' tweet session afterwards. I think we're also going to watch the first episode of Yibo's new/old show. Should be fun!

Anyway, here's my Twitter yelling from last night.

And additional thoughts under the cut

I really feel like I should have watched the other shows first, because apparently Sunglasses already knows the Iron Triangle and I had no idea. I'm still not entirely clear on how they all know each other but they're clearly friendly enough that Wu Xie was happy to give him (bad) relationship advice.

A lot of this episode was about the developing relationship between Sunglasses and Mute Girl, which I didn't expect to be as invested in as I am. I think it's mostly down to the chemistry between the two actors tbh. I'll hop on board any ship if the characters have good chemistry.

This episode also provided one of the scenes I have seen giffed many times so it was nice to finally have some surrounding context. I actually really like Sunglasses as a character

Uncle: Okay, I need you to convince Wu Xie and Pangzi not to come tomb raiding with us. It's too dangerous.
Sunglasses: On it!
Sunglasses: OR I could just drug them so they CAN'T come tomb raiding with us
Sunglasses: :D?

Too funny!

I love the fact that when Wu Xie passes out after getting drugged Liu Sang catches him and gently lowers him to the ground. It wasn't scripted and it only happened because Liu Sang's actor was worried Zhu Yilong was going to hurt himself when he fell. I think he'd injured his wrist previously? The director decided it was in character for Liu Sang to do that after Wu Xie saved his life a few episodes back so they left it in.

I love little behind the scenes stories like that.

I also love that Zhu Yilong seems to bring out the protective instincts of literally everyone. He's like a baby bunny or a tiny kitten. Must protect.

I've been thinking today that I kind of want to go away somewhere for a few days. I absolutely do not want to be around other people because, you know, pandemic, but I was thinking maybe a cottage or something like that. I have basically been living in my bedroom for the past 5 months. I work in here, I eat most of my meals in here, I spend my evenings in here either writing or streaming TV, and obviously I sleep in here. The only time I venture out is to eat dinner with my housemate and to use the bathroom. I need a change of scenery.

I don't really want to go too far because, you know, pandemic, but I found a nice little cottage about 20 miles away that's on the bank of a lake. I think it's used for fishing trips a lot but it's reasonably priced, has one bedroom, a kitchen and living room area and apparently has nice walks nearby if you don't want to go fishing (which I do not). I'm pretty much set on going now. I can't even really go for walks here because I live right next to the high street so there are just people everywhere all the time.

It's my birthday next month so I think I might go away for a few days as a treat to myself. Even if I just stay inside and write fic and watch my shows the change of scenery will do me good I think. Just need to decide when I want to go.

A few days at that cabin sound AMAZING. I've had the marvelous fortune to know a couple people who had cabins on lakes and honestly there are few environments I like more. I hope you have a lovely time.

I came up in the due South fandom. Cabin is a word that gets used A LOT. 😄 I look forward to hearing about your relaxation and good times there!
