hilsWOO HOO! I survived the first week of being the boss. 5 more days to go! Yesterday was pretty hellish and this morning I had to speak to an external auditing company and answer questions about our processes which felt scarily like a test, but apart from that it hasn't been too bad.
I think the insane heat making it difficult to sleep has finally caught up to me. I am so very tired today. Definitely going to have an early(ish) night tonight and a nice lie in tomorrow.
Movie night was fun last night. The best thing about watching a classic like The Terminator is that we've all seen it loads of times so we could just type away in the Netflix Party chat window and not worry about missing anything.
I also managed to squeeze in 2 episodes of The Lost Tomb Reboot. Initially I was only going to watch 1 but episode 6 ended on a cliffhanger so I had to watch the next one as well. Initial flailing on Twitter here. Does linking to this thread even work properly? Twitter is stupid.
Anyway, other comments under the cut.
I'm actually going to start with the update on what I knew before I started watching because some of it is relevant to the episodes I watched last night.
* Wu Xie has terminal lung cancer which mostly means he faints a lot and occasionally coughs up some blood like a Victorian with consumption
Still coughing and now occasionally needing to rest because he gets tired more easily. I like that they don't really forget that he's sick and it's very slowly becoming more obvious. Last night Pangzi caught him taking his medication and Wu Xie convinced him they were vitamin pills
* When he's not going through the above he gets whumped in a variety of other ways
Repeatedly hit his head on a brick wall to signal that he needed help. Got mildly poisoned again which just made him act drunk for a few minutes
* Hoodie guy might be immortal?
Yep still have no idea
* Something about thunder
They found more recordings of thunder. I still don't fully understand. Thunder is important, that's all I've got.
* Something about crabs (actual crabs I think not the STD)
FINALLY A CRAB SIGHTING! And I see now why everyone was losing their minds about the crabs. So, basically, Chinese censorship prevents any sort of depiction of the undead (so no vampires or zombies). To get around this the show has a corpse 'come back to life' and attack Wu Xie and Pangzi, but the way the corpse comes back to life is that it's animated by parasitic crabs. Amazing. I think this one can come off the list now. I do hope we see more crabs though. It's just been the one so far.
* There's a warehouse? That might be evil? I'm not sure.

* Presumably there's a tomb that may or may not get found
They're still in the lost tomb, which I guess is now the found tomb.
The show has finally introduced a female character! And she's amazing! We don't know her name yet, or if we do I missed it, but she lives in a village of mute people so she doesn't speak. But she does make crude gestures with her hands, which I'm kind of amazed got past the censors. She gets introduced when one of the male characters sneaks off to pee and she accidentally see him. Then she keeps wiggling her little finger at him to imply he has a tiny dick. It's so funny. She takes no shit from anyone.
The scene were Wu Xie and Pangzi get mildly poisoned started off hilariously with them charging around and acting out some of their past adventures. Then they get to the crying drunk stage and Pangzi starts telling Wu Xie how much he loves him and that he's loved him for years and wants to kiss him (I guess that got past the censors because he was poisoned/drunk?) and ends with Pangzi crying and telling Wu Xie he's not allowed to die before him (which Wu Xie obviously cannot promise to do).
This show does take me on emotional rollercoasters.
Usually I have a Zoom call with my friends in Newcastle on a Friday but a couple of them couldn't make it this week and there's a 7pm hockey game that I'd like to watch so we've decided to take a week off from Zoom and games.
There's another early hockey game tomorrow evening too. It's weird being able to watch so many playoff games. Usually they all happen while I'm asleep.

I have a friend who knows some British Sign Language, and apparently the signing in TLTR is close enough to it that she can follow some of it. So she does sign! (She's a reporter from China staying in the village, so it makes sense that she speaks Chinese Sign Language. It...doesn't make sense that the villagers apparently also do but...)
