I feel like I haven't stopped at work today. It's been insanely busy and as well as my Thursday post office run I also had to stop by the office and drop off a few boxes of antibacterial wipes that got delivered to my house this morning. So that ate into a chunk of my time too. I didn't end up eating lunch until 3pm it's just been one of those days.

Still, it's nearly the weekend and I am looking forward to a couple of days of (hopefully) stress-free relaxing.

It's movie night tonight and this week's choice is The Terminator. Always a favourite of mine so I'm looking forward to watching it again.

Did get any writing done at all yesterday, and probably not going to have time today or tomorrow either.

Yesterday we decided it was just too hot for cooking so we ordered pizza and watched some silly TV. Because we ate dinner a lot earlier than usual I was able to squeeze in an extra episode of The Lost Tomb Reboot. As usual I had a lot of fun yelling about it on Twitter. Yesterday's tweets can be found starting here

And some slightly more coherent thoughts under the cut

New characters have been introduced. I'm particularly interested in Liu Sang who was raised by a blind woman and now has incredibly sensitive hearing (yes, I know that makes no sense, this show is very silly that's part of its charm)

They've also started a subplot which I don't fully understand yet but I'm assuming will become clear at some point.

What I wasn't expecting was a silly show about tomb raiding (sorry, I mean 'preserving cultural artifacts') to make me so emotional. There were a couple of really touching scenes in episode 4 which had me actually crying. The first one had Wu Xie telling Xiaoge that he's had a good life and that all he wants to do now is die doing what he loves, travelling with his two best friends. Then they had a team hug and I was a wreck.

A few minutes after that while they're driving Pangzi starts planning their retirement and talking about how they'll all live together and get old and fat together and Wu Xie is just looking wistfully out the car window but going along with it because he doesn't want his best friend to be sad.

I've noticed since lockdown started I cry a lot more easily over things than I did before, which I suppose is understandable. This whole pandemic is messing with everyone's emotions.

So, yeah, came for the tomb raiding and left with Feelings.

What I'm finding interesting is that the characters aren't quite what I was imagining (apart from Pangzi who is exactly what I was imagining).

Wu Xie is actually a little shit who seems to enjoy fucking with people. I think because most of the gifs and pics I'd seen revolved around him being ill or getting beaten up in some other way I was expecting him to be kind of a woobie. He is not.

Xiaoge smiles a lot more than I was expecting. Only little smiles but he does seem to be mostly amused by everything that's going on around him.

I know this show has its problematic areas. There's some racist stuff that I haven't got to yet, and there are basically no women in it (apparently a couple get introduced later in supporting roles) which isn't great but overall I'm enjoying it.

Let's look at what I have learned:

* Wu Xie has terminal lung cancer which mostly means he faints a lot and occasionally coughs up some blood like a Victorian with consumption
He's coughing a little more frequently now and has had a conversation with Xiaoge about it. Liu Sang also knows he's dying because he could hear it. But apart from that he's still running around and raiding tombs with little effort.

* When he's not going through the above he gets whumped in a variety of other ways
Fell through a crack in the ground and got buried in sand

* Hoodie guy might be immortal?
Well, they've said he's over 100 years old (but with no explanation). Still not sure if that means immortal.

* Something about thunder
We had a story about a thunder god which I assume will be relevant at a later point

* Something about crabs (actual crabs I think not the STD)
Still no crabs

* There's a warehouse? That might be evil? I'm not sure.
Not sure when the warehouse plot starts. No sign of it yet

* Presumably there's a tomb that may or may not get found
They found the lost tomb! In episode 5! So, uh, I'm not sure what the rest of the show is going to be about...possibly the evil warehouse?

Oof, that workday sounds EXHAUSTING. I hope the weekend helps to balance it out! Almost there!

Wu Xie is actually a little shit who seems to enjoy fucking with people.

He REALLY IS, and I love him. *^^* (I can't even say "Z1L plays him, so of course I love him", since Z1L is so brilliant that I have every confidence in his ability to play someone I'd loathe.)

(I'm too tired for a more detailed comment, but I'm enjoying your Lost Tomb posts! *^^*)
