Made it halfway through the first week of standing in for my boss and nothing has exploded so far. I feel like I'm jinxing it every time I make some sort of celebratory comment but I need to reassure myself and celebrate the small wins.

It continues to be far Too Hot. We were promised thunderstorms yesterday evening, then again at lunchtime today and looking out of my window right now it's just clear blue skies and sunshine. I just want some rain to hopefully cool things down a bit! My pale Welsh body cannot cope with 30c heat.

I only managed to write about 200 words yesterday evening. I don't know if it's the heat or I just wasn't in the right mood but I kept getting distracted. Going to try and do some more this evening but given it's still uncomfortably hot I'm not going to push it.

I watched another episode of The Lost Tomb Reboot after dinner. Yelling on Twitter can be found starting here. Additional comments under the cut

More tombs were raided (to preserve cultural artifacts as they very clearly inform the audience. No looting to be found here). There was also a giant snake, explosions, and more Wu Xie getting wet in the rain.

I'm still not 100% clear on what the actual plot is but given I'm only 3 episodes in I'm hoping that will get cleared up as things progress. I'm still very much on the 'something about thunder' level of understanding what's happening.

Actually, it might be fun to look at what I knew going in and what I know now

* Wu Xie has terminal lung cancer which mostly means he faints a lot and occasionally coughs up some blood like a Victorian with consumption
He got diagnosed in the middle of the first episode but apart from a few little coughs he seems pretty spry for someone only given 3 months to live.

* When he's not going through the above he gets whumped in a variety of other ways
He got a cold after being out in the rain (which we haven't seen but it was mentioned by Pangzi) and he got mildly poisoned in the first episode which is what led to the lung cancer diagnosis

* There's a very pretty emo looking guy that seems to perpetually wear a black hoodie with the hood up
His name is Qiling or his friends call him Xiaoge and he has finally arrived. His hood isn't up all that much actually and sometimes he is shirtless and has a badass dragon(?) tattoo. I like him. The stoic badass is definitely my type in c-dramas (see also Lan Wangji in The Untamed and Shen Wei in Guardian)

* Hoodie guy might be immortal?
Yeah, still no idea about this but I did learn he has magic fingers

* Something about thunder
They've kind of explained the thunder thing but I am still very confused

* Something about crabs (actual crabs I think not the STD)
No crabs have been spotted yet

* There's a warehouse? That might be evil? I'm not sure.
I think the warehouse plot happens later. Not sure though

* Presumably there's a tomb that may or may not get found
Well, they found A tomb. I don't think it was THE tomb though.

* Strong OT3 vibes with Wu Xie, Pangzi and hoodie guy
Literally within 2 minutes of Qiling appearing on screen so I think we can consider this one done.

Similarly to the first two episodes my favourite thing is the character relationships. Wu Xie and Pangzi continue to be great and now that Qiling has joined them the Iron Triangle is finally complete. Qiling doesn't say much but he clearly cares deeply for Wu Xie and Pangzi, and he's the only one who knows that Wu Xie is dying which will create an interesting dynamic I think.

So, things are progressing nicely and I'm very much enjoying it.

Obviously now that I'm an adult I'm very aware that looting tombs is wrong, especially when white people swan in and take things from other cultures, but as a kid I loved things like Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider and this feeds into that a lot.

I suppose in a way this is where the censorship laws work in their favour because they very heavily point out that they are preserving the things they find not stealing and selling them.

So I think that's better? Maybe?

Anyway, onward with episode 4. More thoughts (such as they are) tomorrow.
