As per usual it's been a pretty quiet weekend.

Friday night was fun. I had my weekly Zoom call with my friends up north and during the call there was a massive thunderstorm pretty much over the top of my house. We all went 'OOH' every time there was a loud clap of thunder.

Then we got to track the storm as it slowly moved north. Everyone on the call had it at some point. Who needs a weather app when you can just follow the weather via Zoom :D

Yesterday was nice and chill. Did some reading and then played Stardew Valley with Emma for a while. It's winter in the game at the moment which meant my contribution was going down the mines and repeatedly getting knocked out by monsters. Not my most productive session...

Speaking of reading I am currently reading a 160k fic that was originally posted in Mandarin but that a fan has translated into English. Honestly one of the main things that's impressed me about being in c-drama fandom is how generous people are with their time. So many people have worked to translate novels and fics, to subtitle shows that don't have official English subtitles etc. I just love that fans want to make things accessible to more people, and this is why I always say yes whenever anyone asks if they can translate one of my fics into another language.

My housemate and I always have a takeaway on a Saturday as a treat. When the lockdown first started and everyone was panic buying food we decided to combine our groceries to make them last longer (before this I was out most evenings so we just used to cook for ourselves) and we settled into a routine where Jacqui would use our combined groceries to cook something for dinner and I would do the dishes after. It works out well. Jacqui enjoys cooking and I hate it, and I actually find doing the dishes pretty relaxing. It's pretty much the only time I get a break from any sort of screen, especially during the week when I'm at work from 8-4 and then my hobbies pretty much entirely involve being online or looking at my kindle.

Anyway, we decided fairly early on that as a break from cooking and doing the dishes, and to support local businesses who were struggling especially at the beginning, we would get a takeaway on a Saturday. Last night we had Thai and OMG it was so good! I'm a relatively new convert to Thai food. I think the first time I had it was when I went to New York Comic Con in 2015 and we got takeout one evening. Then, when I got home, I was sad to discover that York had no Thai takeout places. Now we have 4 :D

Watched another 3 episodes of Detective L last night and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I absolutely adore the female lead, and Bai Yu is so damn pretty in it.

It's funny, I've had a couple of conversations about this, but none of the other c-dramas I've watched have compelled me to watch other things the actors have been in but I am absolutely devouring things that the Guardian cast have done. I'm not at the stage where I'm going to go back through their entire back catalog. From what I understand a lot of the shows are bad. I guess it's just happenstance that a couple of them (Detective L and The Lost Tomb Reboot) are the sort of show I enjoy.

Current plan is to spend the afternoon writing so let's see how that goes. It's been a few weeks...
