Have completed one of my mid-year appraisals, two of them are mostly done, and one I've still got to start. I'm feeling less panicked at least.
My boss and her boss are both off on Friday so I'm apparently the point of contact for the entire department not just the Service Desk. Oh joy. I've done it before and generally I don't get asked anything but it's always a stressful time.
I had an 'early night' last night by which I mean I was asleep before 1am. Ah, insomnia, such a good time. I at least managed to get into bed early even if I didn't get to sleep for ages. Possibly reading right before I try and sleep isn't a good idea but when else am I going to do it?
I started a new show last night, and because I was tired I only watched one episode. I think I deserve some sort of award because it ended on a cliffhanger and I still didn't watch more.
I've been joking that Detective L is Chinese Sherlock, but I didn't realise how accurate that was until I watched it. Even the opening credits look and sound like Sherlock (possibly if the Sherlock theme had been composed by Danny Elfman). I couldn't find just the titles and theme to share so here's the first episode. The titles are as soon as the video starts if you're curious, or you know, you can watch the whole thing.
It's a really fun show! The Watson type character is a female police officer who has just graduated from the academy. She's bright, enthusatic, good at her job and generally kickass. When she first meets Luo Fei (the Sherlock character) she tackles and pins him to the ground.
And the 1930s clothes are SO PRETTY!
I'm really looking forward to watching more.
Still haven't managed to get any writing done but I have ideas. I just need to sit down and actually get some words down on the page.

Your Detective L tweets made me consciously think about the fact that I'm now on my second Sherlock Holmes(/-esque) show, since

IMO (having seen the whole show), the series never matched the amazingness of season 1 again, but the flip side is that I thought season 2 was by far the weakest and the rest was really good.

I love her already.

Isn't it annoying how ideas don't magically appear on the page without us doing anything?

This is why I'm avoiding any kind of management-level role. I don't mind all the roadmapping and prioritising and managing of work (which I do even though officially my team of two has no team lead), but I never want to do appraisals of people.

That would be so much easier!

Most of the time it's fine, it's just occasionally when you get someone taking the piss that it's annoying
