I survived!
Jul. 27th, 2020 05:03 pmFirst day back at work after (most of) a week off was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting it to be. I spent most of the morning reading all the emails that came in while I was off. All 900 of them. Fun times.
One nice thing that my boss implemented not long after we started working from home is having a daily catchup call. Not necessarily to talk about work, although we do that sometimes, but just to have a chat because we don't really get to talk to anyone now that we're not in an office. Today we chatted about Star Trek, the weather, and what we were all going to have for lunch. It was nice.
In retrospect taking a week off the week before mid-year appraisals are due was a bad idea, because now I have to cram everything into this week. Made some progress today though so fingers crossed I can just crack on.
Luckily I thought my boss was off for 2 weeks from Monday but she's here next week so I have a bit more time to settle back into a routine before I have to man the helm.
Didn't end up writing anything yesterday as I was reading for most of the afternoon and then organising and downloading fics on to my kindle in the evening. Maybe after dinner tonight, or I might just start the next c-drama on my list. I'll see how the mood takes me.
Hockey is continuing to continue. All the players have flown to Canada where they will be holed up in a hotel 'bubble' for the next 3-4 months while they play the rest of the games for this season. I still think it's reckless and irresponsible and it's making it impossible for me to show any sort of enthusiasm for the upcoming games.
The league, at least, is doing its best to protect everyone. They're not allowed to leave the hotel apart from to travel to games and all the players and staff are getting tested daily, but that just raises a whole other issue of whether those tests could be better used by people who need them more such as key workers.
The whole thing is a mess and it's upsetting me, hence me throwing myself into a completely new set of fandoms. I just can't mentally or emotionally deal with hockey at the moment.
