Working from home this morning and then this afternoon I'm heading to Birmingham airport to meet my friend who is flying in from Germany. Then it's onwards to Coventry for [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk. So excited!

I'll try and keep up with the daily updates because I'm kind of having fun with it but there's a good chance I may get distracted and forget ;)

Usually on a Friday I go and vist my friend Ros and her little boy, John. I've been doing this every week pretty much since he was born and he's 4 years old now. So I call him my nephew even though we're not related by blood.

Anyways, usually we play together, have dinner and then he goes up for his bath and bedtime. Last night Ros called me up and said he wanted me to tell him a story 'from my head'. This isn't something he's ever asked for before and I panicked for a moment because the sorts of stories I usually make up are not suitable for a 4 year old ;). I think Ros must have seen my panic because she whispered 'just tell him about your day - that's usually what I do'. That, I could do.

So I told him a story about how I got to the house and was all confused because John is usually sitting on the couch when I arrive but *gasp* he wasn't there! So I had to explore the house until I finally found him in the back garden. It was all overly dramatic and very silly and bless John he was practically vibrating in his seat during this story. "I love this SO MUCH," he gasped as I was nearing the end so I guess I passed the story test.

So after we were done we read some books and then he asked if he could tell me about his day. When I relayed this to Ros she was surprised because usually getting him to talk about what he's done is like drawing blood from a stone. So I guess I pass the cool Aunt test too :D

When finally Ros came up to say it was time to go to sleep John threw himself into my arms, gave me the biggest hug, kissed me and told me he loved me which he has never done before. I may have got a little teary. He's a a good kid :)

There are no pics of my Swedish prince to share today because Russia played Canada last night and a big deal was being made because Sid and Geno were playing on opposite teams. I swear, even the media were acting like they were husbands who were being forced to play against each other.
