The weekend is almost here and OMG it can't come soon enough! This feels like the slowest week in history.

Still, I'm only at work for three and a half days next week, and that half day I'm working at home, so my week off is nearly upon me!

Tomorrow I'm heading up to Newcastle for the weekend to have a pre-birthday celebration with my friends. I think the plan tomorrow is just to chill out and maybe watch some movies or something. Sunday we're going to the cat cafe. It's become a tradition to go there if any of us is having a birthday and who doesn't want to spend their birthday (or pre-birthday in my case) eating cake and petting kitties :D

I found out yesterday just before I finished work that the Sweden vs Finland hockey game was earlier than I thought. Timezones are tricky. But I managed to find a working stream with a few minutes to spare. Sadly, then, my hockey curse came into effect. Every single time I've sat down to watch a hockey game my team has lost. I'm talking a 100% here. This is why I stopped making an effort to watch the Pens games during the playoffs.

So, yeah, Sweden lost in overtime. I mean I can't be too upset because the game winning goal was scored by Olli Maata who is also a Penguin. It was an odd game actually. I had no idea there was such a major rivalry between Sweden and Finland. Two fights broke out during the game and there were SO MANY PENALTIES. Haggy ended up in the box twice. So disappointed.

But it was nice to be watching hockey again. Not sure when I'll next be able to watch a game because I'm away this weekend and then heading away again on Thursday for [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk. I'll have to take a look at the schedule.

We did quite well, too -- our new forward, Loui Eriksson, scored, and one of our twins had an assist, and our goalie, who only played for the first half of the game, didn't allow any goals. (We signed Eriksson because he plays well with the twins).

Do the Pens not usually fight?

I've been to games where the entire team has paired off with the other team, or players have poured off the bench to fight! I was at one game where the last 2 minutes took nearly half an hour because every time they dropped the puck a fight broke out. My favourite player disappeared -- all 6'4" of him -- and it took me a moment to realise he was just buried under three of the opposition! It was exhausting to watch.

Oh, the goalie was amazing! I mentioned that more than once when I was livetweeting the game.

Uh, I can't really say whether the Pens fight normally. I've only watched playoff games so far which are considered too important for fights. Someone tried to start something with Sid in one game and he just shrugged and skated off. I guess once the regular season starts we'll see how they usually behave ;)

Totally echoing the slow week sentiment.
