Yes, I am making a post that isn't fic recs :-o
So, folks, I want to talk to you about Wincon. I'm including some official information below but first I want to talk about why Wincon is important to me and why I want to see it continue.

I attended Wincon back in 2010 and I had an absolute blast! To this day I am still friends with some of the people I met there even though most of us aren't in the same fandom(s) that we were in when we met.
Here's just a sample of some of the fun things I did while I was there.
Had drinks in a sports bar with a bunch of people including
missyjack who runs SuperWiki.
Had a pyjama party with
dauntdraws and her roomie where we watched Sherlock
Flailed about the good old days of the Smallville fandom with
talitha78
Flailed about British TV with
aggybird which we disguised as prep work for the panel we were doing ;)
Wrote deliberately bad Destiel fic for the badfic contest wherein we abused bible verses

Went to really useful panel on modding a bigbang which was chaired by
wendy and
lazy_daze. 2010 was the year I inherited
deancasbigbang so it was really good to get pointers and be able to ask questions.
Made tinhats for the tinhat pagent

These are just some of the fun things you could be enjoying in the future. Before I give the official talk I want to close with a direct copy/paste from the post I did when I got home from Wincon
When we got back to the hotel I had to say goodbye to kijikun and lucdarling which made me very sad. That's how awesome Wincon is, you guys. I only knew Kiji through deancasbigbang and a very brief meeting at Chicon and I didn't know Luc at all but I felt like I was saying goodbye to two of my dearest friends. Fandom brings people together like that and Wincon is the RL facilitator of it.
So why am I talking about Wincon? Well, I'll give you the official lowdown from the organisers but what I will say is that they are currently behind on their goal and if the target isn't met there will be no more Wincon ever. I really want this event to continue because, really, it is so much fun!
I will be flying over for it next year (and attending NYCC too hopefully) but even if you can't attend I highly recommend checking out their Indiegogo as there are lots of cool fandom items on offer in exchange for a donation.
I am happy to answer any questions about Wincon from an attendees persepctive if you have them.
Wincon is a 'by the fans, for the fans' multi-fandom con. That means no guests, no celebrities, just the internet in real time with other fans. Wincon 2015 in Pittsburgh will be their 10th anniversary, but they need some help to make it happen.
In the past, they've been about a 100-person con. That's no longer sustainable, so they've decided to grow to 250-300 people. At this size, they can offer more programming, better events, etc. while cutting registration costs nearly in half. Registration for 2015 is just $55 for the weekend.
To make sure Wincon can be successful at this new size, they're running an Indiegogo campaign. You can buy your registration or choose from their other awesome perks. They have custom art from some truly awesome artists made just for the campaign, as well as donations of art commissions and custom fan crafts.
Please take a minute to visit the Indiegogo page and get to know what they're all about. You can also find more information at their tumblr or website.
