More Spartacus ramblings

hilsWell, I just finished Gods of the Arena last night and I have thoughts and feelings
I really enjoyed this! I love a show that surprises me and this one did several times.
You know, even though she's done some truly awful things I can't help but have a bit of respect for Lucretia. The scene where she tells Titus that she's murdering him not for the way he's treated her over the years but for the way he treated her husband was marvellous.
And similarly while I still don't like Ashur I came away understanding why he is the way he is. I mean he's still a sneaky cheat but a lot of that comes from being shit on by everyone else over things that weren't his fault. Well, partially. It wasn't his fault he received the mark for doing what Quintus ordered. But he was awful to his friend out of petty jealousy so, you know, it's twofold.
And all the way through this show I haven't shipped anyone and then in the last episode suddenly I was pairing Gannicus with everyone. Okay, not everyone, but definitely with Oenomaus and Crixus.
And I have to say what happened to Melitta genuinely took me by surprise. As soon as she was ordered to have sex with Gannicus I predicted they would end up developing feelings for each other. I was kind of expecting her to leave with Gannicus tbh (I was spoilered for the fact that he comes back in S2).
Similarly I was expecting Titus to die and I kind of expected Lucretia to poison him when she kept plying him with wine, but what I didn't expect was the fact that she'd been poisoning him for years.
So, I'm starting Vengeance tonight. It's taking my mind off the fact that there's no Hannibal at the moment. God knows what I'm going to do when I get finished with Spartacus. Curl up into a ball probably.

Date: 2013-07-06 02:26 am (UTC)Ashur is the best type of villain - understandable and believable. Everything he does is in pursuit of survival. Who can't empathise with that? Then again though... he does get worse. :D Terrific performance from Nick Tarabray.
