Went to see Spider-Man tonight
In ways it was better than the Toby Maguire version and in ways it wasn't
I liked that they finally ditched the radioactive spider in favour of going for a genetically modified one.
Martin Sheen was awesome as Uncle Ben. I was sort of hoping he wouldn't die (even though I knew he had to) just so he could stick around and be awesome.
Aunt May was a bit...blah. I mean she was nice enough but I dunno I just wanted to shake her whenever Peter came home all beat up and she didn't say anything. I get that she was grieving and probably just assumed that Peter was getting into fights as his own way of coping but when he came in at the end literally covered in blood and she just smiled when he presented her with the box of eggs. I mean really?
Which brings me to my biggest problem with the movie. Peter himself. Now, I know that Andrew Garfield can act, and as Spider-Man he was great. Just when he was himself I really didn't get much of a personality. He was kind of awkward which was cute for about five minutes but I dunno I just didn't feel anything for him at all.
And Rhys Ifans acting was awful!
So, all in all not massively impressed, sadly. It was okay and I didn't hate it or anything but I won't be going for repeat viewings.
And for those wondering there is absolutely no connection between this movie and the rest of the MCU movies (and by that I mean the Avengers and any of their solo movies).
I think I read somewhere that different companies own the rights to Spider-Man than the rest of the Avengers or something.
And thanks to Tumblr I kept expecting Peter's two dads to show up, or his boyfriend.
You have fried my brain, Tumblr
(For those who don't frequent that madhouse there's a meme where Steve and Tony are Peter's two dads and Wade - Deadpool - is his boyfiend. There's gifs, fic, art, the works. I don't know where it came from but I cannot unsee it now.)

Date: 2012-07-09 08:24 pm (UTC)Aaaand *scrolls up* Hey! Peter/Wade? So very much not a joke here! Seriously, if you haven't read the books with the two of 'em in them you should**. They have a bantery awesome messed-up symmetry kind of chemistry going on (not to mention Wade having a massive crush *cackles*) and yes, I ship it like burning. No, I regret nothing, damnit!
Spideypool ftw! ;D
Oh yes, uh, and I quite liked the movie too. Socks not blown off though.
**Unlike some of the people writing really really OOC fic for the two of them who clearly haven't. Sigh.
