SPN How Do I Love Thee
Aug. 12th, 2011 06:07 pmSo, another post that has come about as a result of discussion on Twitter.
A few of my friends were saying how S5 of SPN was their favourite to which I could only say o.O because it's pretty much my least favourite.
So
shadowrose81 asked me why and it's too long to explain on Twitter, hence this post.
I should start by saying that I love some of the individual episodes of S5. The End and Changing Channels are probably in my top 10 overall eps from the whole show. I just found the arc-plot a massive letdown.
The biggest issue I think was the pacing. When Lucifer got let out of Hell at the end of S4 I was expecting S5 to be frantic with the boys barely able to catch a breath while they figured out how to deal with the Devil.
But, no, it was slow and sluggish and to my mind not a great deal happened until right towards the end. I envisioned this huge epic buildup to a final epic battle and it let me down on both counts.
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of Dean's love for his brother getting through to Sam. Except it didn't, the car did. I just found the whole thing incredibly disappointing.
I think in order of preference my fave to least fave looks like this:
Season 2
Season 4
Season 1
Season 6
Season 3
Season 5
