Haitus is always a tough time, and it seems my corner of fandom is taking it especially hard at the moment with the fate of Cas uncertain. So, rather than dwelling on the bad I want to take a minute to focus on the good.

lizajaneok was telling me that she's started rewatching S1 of SPN to remind herself why she fell in love with the show in the first place. Since I am more of a words kind of girl I decided to make a list.




10 Episodes

1. Mystery Spot. A perfect blend of humour, drama and angst.

2. The End. Fantastic dark and gritty episode with fantastic performances from the whole cast.

3. All Hell Breaks Loose (Parts 1 and 2). You really can't have one without the other. Closure on the early seasons and an awesome opener for the rest.

4. Changing Channels. I was in pain I was laughing so hard at some of this episode. And it gave us Gabriel.

5. The Man Who Would Be King. No matter what happens to Cas in the future I will be satisfied knowing this episode gave us his story.

6. On The Head of a Pin. Another fantastically acted episode. Jensen and Misha are both amazing.

7. The Monster at the End of This Book. Another episode that blends humor, angst and important plot all in one.

8. A Very Supernatural Christmas. Weechesters, the Samulet, snow, the boys having what they think will be their last Christmas together. Love.

9. Provenance. I miss the days when the show was properly scary. This episode gave me nightmares. Plus Sarah was awesome.

10. Frontierland. Brilliantly crafted episode in every way. The acting, the direction, the music, the plot. All awesome.



10 Characters

11. Dean Winchester. All jokes about Jensen aside it was Dean who got me hooked on this show back in the early days. He's so snarky and badass on the outside and so desperately in need of love and hugs on the inside.

12. Sam Winchester. It took me longer to warm to Sam but there wouldn't be a show without him. He wears his heart on his sleeve but there's a darkness and complexity to him that I find really attractive.

13. Castiel. As soon as he walked onto the screen like a total BAMF I was hooked. I love seein the journey Cas has gone on since he met Dean and Sam and I don't know about anyone else but I am really excited to see what happens with Godstiel next season.

14. Ellen Harvelle. This woman is fierce and loving and awesome. She's a fantastic monther, an awesome hunter and it still makes me sad that she went the way of all female characters on this show (apart from Meg apparently)

15. Trickster/Gabriel. I loved him when he was just a random bad guy in Tall Tales, I loved him when he was more involved and teaching Sam a lesson in Mystery Spot, I loved the reveal that he was Gabriel and I loved that he did the right thing in the end.

16. The Impala. She's as integral to this show as Sam and Dean are. She's their home, their memories, their shelter and their protection.

17. Bobby Singer. He's gruff, outspoken, a borderline alcoholic and arguably a better dad than John Winchester ever was.

18. Zachariah. Easily my favourite villain of the show. He was delightfully snarky and called the boys on their erotic codependance ;)

19. Chuck Shurley. He was awesome when he was a washed up drunken writer, he was awesome when he was a nervous guest at a convention, he was awesome when he went all badass and hooked up with Becky as a result, he was awesome when he was jealous of one of his own 'characters' and he was awesome as possibly God.

20. John Winchester. Arguably not the best father in the world but he loved his boys and tried his best to do right by them in a difficult situation.

21. Jared Padalecki. He's the reason I got involved in the SPN fandom. It's probably going to sound insane but I had a week of consecutive dreams about him and decided to start having a poke into the fandom (before that I loved the show but didn't take part in the fandom). Soon I was reading fic and after that I was hooked.

22. Jensen Ackles. I admit I don't really get him, but I can appreciate his work as both an actor and a director. He's very good at what he does.

23. Misha Collins. Oh, Misha. So many words needed and so little space for them. I think he was the first of the SPN cast to break the 4th wall and openly talk about fanfic. He treats fandom like his own personal playground and we can't get enough of it. Thanks to him I have made some incredible friends and have a job that I love.

24. Eric Kripke. I may not rate Kripke much as a writer but at the end of the day he created SPN and it wouldn't exist without him.

25. Ben Edlund. Even before Cas came along Edlund was responsible for nearly all of my favourite episodes. He's a fantastic writer and clearly sees the characters the same way I do.

26. Sera Gamble. I know she's not popular at the moment but she gave us robo!Sam and for that I will forever be grateful

27. Richard Speight Jr. Sometimes I forget his character was only in 5 episodes of the show. He really engages with his fans, especially at conventions and always makes sure that everyone has a good time.

28. Matt Cohen. One of the warmest and kindest people I have ever met. The first time I saw him so a panel he made me cry because his appreciation of the fandom was so moving.

29. Jeremy Carver. There's a reason Chuck's pen name was a mesh of Jeremy Carver and Ben Edlund. Another of my favourite writers on the show. I miss him.

30. Sebastian Roche. He is a ridiculous flirt and attention whore but I love him anyway.



10 Songs

31. Carry On Wayward Son - Kansas. Obviously this one has to be first. This will forever be the SPN theme.

32. Ramblin' Man - The Allman Brothers. I'm not a huge country music fan but I love this one

33. Laugh, I Nearly Died - The Rolling Stones. I didn't actually know this Stones song before the show and it's one of my faves now

34. Can't Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon. This has to be on here just because it was the song that inspired my first ever bigbang fic

35. Supermassive Black Hole - Muse. When this song appeared (for two seconds in the background) on the show it made me squee.

36. Renegade - Styx. For the longest time this was my fave song from the show. It's still pretty damn awesome.

37. Every Rose Has Its Thorn - Poison. This is kind of cheesey but kind of pretty at the same time. I love it.

38. Heat of the Moment - Asia. RISE AND SHINE, SAMMY!

39. Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi. Because Bon Jovi rocks. On occasion.

40. Thunderstruck - AC/DC. The S5 opener is my favourite of all of them, and it's largely down to this awesome song.

41. Sam/Dean. It may not be my ship of choice but it was the first one and even I can't deny the chemistry that Sam and Dean have on the show

42. Dean/Castiel. My OTP and the reason I started writing fic for the show in the first place. So much staring and invasion of personal space and staring.

43. Sam/Gabriel. I know this isn't really a popular ship but it's always made sense to me especially after re-watching Mystery Spot. Gabriel wants Sam to get over Dean and move on, obviously.

44. Sam/Castiel. Not just the silly, cracky fluff of Sassy but also more serious fics too. Sam is always the one who has believed in angels and he's so delighted the first time he meets Cas and so disappointed that he's kind of a dick. I've loved watching them grow closer over the seasons.

45. Dean/Castiel/Sam. Because I love them all reading the three of them together is the obvious solution.

46. Jared/Jensen. Weirdly I started reading J2 before I started reading Dean/Cas. There's just so much high quality fiction out there for this pairing and it has the hotness of of the boys without the squick (for me) of incest

47. Jensen/Misha. It took me a while to get into this pairing but there's just something about the quiet introspective Jensen and free spirit Misha that really appealed to me

48. Jared/Misha. I think I was one of the first people to actively ship these two. They just have so much great chemistry and banter together that it's impossible not to

49. Dean/Misha. I pretty much was the first person to write this and it was so much fun!

50. Dean/Jared. This was pretty much the first time I ever read an FPS/RPS crossover and it was beautiful. Jared is such a stark contrast to Sam and just what Dean needs.

51. ontd_spnparty. Pretty much anything SPN related you want you can get from this comm. Including some of the best gifs ever

52. mishaland. Gone but not forgotten. I still fondly remember the amount of fun I had on this comm.

53. deancastiel. It still amuses me that I had to pretty much force myself to join this comm because I still felt kind of guilty about shipping Dean/Cas.

54. spn_j2_bigbang. So many high quality fics come out of this challenge every year. Their posting schedule it one of the high points on my fandom calendar.

55. deancasbigbang. Yes, I'm probably biased because I run it but last year I was astounded by the amount of amazing fic and art that came out of this challenge. Looking forward to this year's

56. sassy_otp. I didn't even really know what Sassy was until this comm came along. A place of joy, rainbows and awesome hair.

57. rec_hymenated. Another one of mine but even before I took over this comm I loved it for the amount of new fic and art it enabled me to discover.

58. daily_misha. Because there's no such thing as too much Misha.

59. spn_gabriel. The place to go for all my Gabriel needs.

60. dailypadalecki. Because I need dimples and awesome hair on a daily basis to brighten my day.

61. The Doors of Time by felisblanco. Probably my fave fic in any fandom. I've even got some non-fandom friends to read this one and they loved it

62. The Melting Verse by strangeandcharm. Pretty much the first Dean/Cas fic I ever read and the one responsible for hooking me into this fandom.

63. Counting the Steps to the Doors of Your Heart by annella. Another one of my fave J2 AU fics and another one I come back and re-read frequently.

64. The Request by cloudyjenn. Probably the first Dean/Cas AU I read and one of the best.

65. Fandom Is Srs Bsns by eliza_jane. This one makes me laugh every single time.

66. Bulletproof by fleshflutter. Another one of the early J2 AU fics I read and easily one of the best.

67. Topspin by lazy_daze. I love tennis, I love J2 and I love hotness. Ticks all the boxes.

68. When You Care Enough to Hit Send by longsufferingly. SO, SO CUTE.

69. With Our Destinies Entwined by morganoconner. I love fics about what was going on with the angels pre-SPN and this is just perfection

70. Lay Your Body Down (Next To Mine) by runedgirl. The first Wincest fic I ever read and EPIC HOTNESS.

71. In The Shelter Of Your Wings. I love all of this person's art but this one is so beautiful and sad it makes me wibble every time.

72. Castiel Is In Love. A really sweet and tender moment between Dean and Cas

73. Maintenance Yeah, I'm a sucker for anything involving Dean touching Castiel's wings so it's no wonder I love this

74. Flying Lessons I had to include one chibi piece and this is just adorable

75. Waiting For The Son Of Man God, I love this. The colours and the tone are perfect.

76. Happy Ending I am ignoring what actually happened in S6 and adopting this as my canon

77. Weak and Powerless. Again I just love the tone of this and the colours. THE BOYS JUST NEED TO HUG

78. My Tall Friend Sam. SASSY \o/

79. Protecting Something So Holy. Yeah, I like whumped!Cas and BAMF!Dean so this catered to me perfectly.

80. Small, Small World. I adore, ADORE all of her art but this is the one where I first discovered her.

83. What About Everything. This is probably my favourite gen SPN vid. It makes me smile every time I watch it

84. Go Back To Sleep. Brilliant, brilliant vid. I actually hung out with the girl who made this in Nashville, only I didn't realise who she was until I got back home *FACEPALMING FOREVER*

86. Say Love. Another one that makes me smile every time I watch it. Jared, how are you so cute?

87. I Fell In Love. And this is the J2 vid that pulled me into the SPN fandom many years ago.

88. Misha Collins; We Just Can't Get Enough. I think the title says it all really.

89. The Righteous Man. Fantastic video with chilling music and great use of colour

90. The Special Two. This one made me cry the first time I saw it.
