Storm amidst the calm
May. 23rd, 2011 04:24 pmI was doing so well with my positive thinking about S7 of SPN but the CW seems determined to ruin my happy place with its continued pushing of their bullshit
So, it started with the CW listing Misha as a regular for S7 and then 'correcting' it after the finale aired. Some of my journo friends investigated and were told that it had been done deliberately because they didn't want the news to 'ruin' the viewing of the finale.
Okay, fine. Kind of a shitty thing to do deliberately misleading like that but I sort of understand it.
Then, today, another one of my journo friends got in touch and said that the word on the grapevine was that Cas was being killed off in the first episode of Season 7 but that the network might be persuaded to change their minds if the fans were 'vocal' enough.
Now, this I am not cool with. Have we not demonstrated to the network again and again how much we love Misha and Castiel? Do the polls we endlessly voted on to show our support to the show (we got them on the cover of TV Guide for fucks sake), the posts to all the forums and blogs, the endless tweets mean nothing? I know that's not the case. The network powers that be know how much we love Cas and Misha. They can't not know. He wouldn't still be in the show if they were totally clueless about his popularity.
Yet now we're being told that none of that is good enough. We need to be more vocal if we want Cas to survive and see him in more than one episode next year. What else do they want us to do, exactly? Are we expected to all get tattoos of Castiel? To deface public buildings with 'Save Cas'?
The whole think reeks of blackmail and manipulation and it stinks. This is entirely from a personal view of course. I'm sure there are people who will do whatever it takes to save Cas but I honestly can't bring myself to create a big kerfuffle and give the CW a whole load of new free publicity. Because I'm 90% sure that's all they're aiming for and they're going to do their own thing regardless.
SPN starts filming in July which means they have to have started writing the episodes already, surely? It seems to me it's a bit late to be petitioning for Castiel.
Anyway, the whole thing has left me thoroughly pissed off and the point of this post was to vent so I can move on. Hopefully it'll do the trick.
