Founder's Day!

A year ago today an amazing thing happened.
A year ago today Misha Collins asked for suggestions of ways to spend stimulus money while he was off doing important business fixing Hubble.
lizajaneok, wonderful human being that she is, set up a small wordpress page where we could gather and submit ideas. Weirdly it seems like only yesterday that I signed up to pitch my ideas and 'met' Lisa for the first time.
At this point it was just a list of ideas grouped into categories. There were loads of really great suggestions on there and it was fantastic seeing people from all over the world coming together to share ideas.
A year later and Minion Stimulus is now Random Acts and is so much more than just ways to spend government money. Random Acts challenges us to change the way we view the world around us and to change the way we interact with other people. It encourages us to, in the words of Bill and Ted 'be excellent to each other'. And it really makes a difference! You may not realise it but sometimes just a smile or a kind word from a stranger can be all it takes to turn a really shitty day into something better. And that, in turn, makes others want to share that feeling by being kind in turn. It's one big pay it forward scheme and the end result is that we all feel good.
On a personal level I have met so many fantastic people through this organisation. I had the pleasure of meeting up with
lizajaneok and
brihana25 at Chicon this year and they are just two of the loveliest ladies! I really hope I can make it to Nashville next year so I can see Lisa again (oh, yeah, and that Misha guy). And the rest of the admin team who I only know through twitter are just as awesome. I do wish there wasn't an ocean between us.
It's been absolutely amazing watching the site grow and evolve over the past twelve months. It's barely recognisable from the initial list that was made. In that time they've performed random acts of kindness, Misha ran until his legs fell off, and they raised a bunch of money which is already being spent on worthy causes and acts of kindness.
I really can't wait to see what the next twelve months bring. I have a feeling it's going to be pretty spectacular.
So pop on over to the site and show the admin team and regional reps some love for being totally wonderful. I think Misha already knows we love him ;)
