So I saw something on one of the anon comms last night. I'm pretty sure they were trying to start wank but at the same time it did give me pause for thought

So the basic gist of the comment after this weeks episode was that the writers have turned Sam into a version of Castiel because they see Cas's popularity but don't to acknowledge that Misha is more popular than Jared.

I have to say that this weeks ep did make me see a lot of strong parallels between Dean's relationship with soulless!Sam and his relationship with Castiel. The whole trying to explain human emotions thing and what is and isn't appropriate to say to someone harkens back to Free to be You and Me from last year.

It's not surprising, then, that this weeks ep was penned by Ben Edlund as he writes Castiel better than anyone else. It makes me wonder whether he is actually thinking of Cas when writing Sam.

I mean obviously there are differences. Castiel does actally have emotions (going back to the post I did a couple of weeks back about Gabriel) but at the same time he doesn't really get people and he's certainly more interested in the most practical way to get to the bottom of a problem. The whole scene outside the police station where Cas says 'We'll tell the officer he witnessed an angel of the lord and the officer will tell us where the angel is' is absolutely something I could see soulless!Sam saying too.

But obviously soulless!Sam is way more snarky and I think if Dean called Cas and told him he was about to be abducted by an alien Cas would care and come and rescue him.

But the similarities are definitely there and I just thought it was interesting that someone else had noticed it (even if they were using it as wank fodder)

What do you think?
