Went and voted on the way home from work. Feel pleased to have done my bit

You know, it makes me sad when I hear people, especially women, complaining about how they feel like they're being guilted into voting.

I'm quoting [livejournal.com profile] gillo in my reponse because she expressed it better than I could

I urge you to go and vote. Especially if you're female - when Dave's mother was born only female graduates and women over twenty-eight had a vote amongst women. Many of our foremothers suffered so we have the right to put that little cross on the paper with the stubby little pencil: verbal abuse, physical abuse, imprisonment, forced feeding, even death. For their sake it is our duty to use that vote.

I don't understand how people can be so blase about voting. This will determine how the country is run over the next four years. Can you honestly say you don't care about how much you get paid and how much tax you pay? That you don't care what sort of education your children get?

Yes, it's easy to say that one vote won't make any difference but if everyone adopted that attitude then it's all too easy for the wrong person to get voted in.

Remember the big kerfuffle when the BNP won seats? It's because people didn't go out and vote for anyone else.

So, please vote. It IS important
