I have decided that Dave needs to be my new SPN guinea pig. Because he enjoys the show but he's not a fandom person and he's really good at giving outside perspective on episodes. I know I get too involved in the show. I think most fandom people are guilty of that.

We watched some S4. Monster Movie, Yellow Fever, It's The Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester, Wishful Thinking, It's A Terrible Life and The Monster At The End Of This Book.

He loved Monster Movie and I really can't remember why I hated it so much the first time I watched it because I kind of love it now. I spotted something new! You know when they go past the Welcome To Pensylvania signs? When the lightning flashes Pensylvania changes to Translyvania for a fraction of a second. I'll try and cap it tomorrow. Did anyone else notice this? It's about the fifth time I've seen the episode and I only just noticed it.

He also really liked The Monster At The End Of This Book so I decided to test something

This is only the second time I've watched the episode so I was curious how I'd react to it given that I've now had chance to get to grips with the whole convention thing.

Dave loved it. He found the whole meta aspect of the episode really interesting and when I said it had made me cringe the first time he said that he didn't see it as poking fun at Supernatural fans per se but more an examination of fandom in general. He did lol at the fake Sam and Dean gravelly voices too and he was highly amused when Becky 'broke up' with Sam.

I definitely didn't hate it so much on a second viewing but I have kind of grown to love Becky and her crazy ways. Someone on my flist pointed out the hilarity of the fact that Kripke ships Creator/Fangirl and it is kind of adorable.

I also loved Dean smiling to himself after his little chat with Damien and Barnes at the end of the episode.

So, yeah, it's cute and was much less cringeworthy on a second viewing.

Oh, and Dave had a boycrush on Jensen. We were watching Yellow Fever and he was all 'are his eyes really that green?' and then when he did Eye of the Tiger at the end he said his love of Jensen had just quadrupled. LOL!

Oh, and we had some Castiel which was nice. It was the first time I'd watched any SPN since meeting Misha. It made me happy.

And I am seriously addicted to reading Misha/Rosenbaum. I have no idea why. They've never even met, but it just seems to work.
