An observation

hilsI find it really interesting the way SPN fans write Michael compared to the way SV fans write him
SPN fans always call him Mike (I think I read one fic where this was the exception) even though he has said in at least one interview that he doesn't like it. Admittedly I was guilty of this in my first SV RPS fic but still.
The other thing is that SPN fans tend to make him crazy. I mean he is, but in the SPN fics he's always the far side of crazy. Like the one where he got married to Tom in a wedding dress that I recced yesterday, and made Jensen wear a bridesmaid's dress. Sometimes it works and is funny, other times it doesn't.
It's like he's almost become a stereotype, and I think this is the problem with RPS as a whole (and something I'm going to mention in my canon vs fanon talk). A lot of the characters are sterotyped to extreme.
Obviously all the characters have to be recognisable as themselves but there's characterisation and then there's exaggerated stereotype.
The problem I have now is that I've been reading so much SPN RPS that when it comes to write my bigbang I need to make sure that the Michael I write is my Michael, not the version I've been reading about for the past few weeks. I've written him before so I know I can do it. I just need to get into the zone.
I think I need to watch some Jared and Jensen interviews too so that I write them the way I see them rather than the way other people have written them
Misha isn't a problem because I have Twitter as a reference guide and neither is Tom because I think I have him pretty clear in my head already.
