Heating is back on at work but I'm glad I decided not to go in because I still feel awful. Thankfully the super-strong night medicine I took last night did its job and I slept well. It's just unfortunate that I'm awake now and feeling crap again.

Maybe after a shower and some lunch I'll feel a bit more human. I'm supposed to be cooking Christmas dinner tomorrow night so I really hope I'm better by then :(

I still haven't heard anything back from [livejournal.com profile] stop_plagiarism but I guess with it being the holidays it's going to take a bit longer. I have to say that all the comments I received for the fic after the accusation was made, not one of them has been negative so that's good.

My wariness about writing has gone anyway and the good thing about me having to go into work this afternoon is that I can mail my Gemini fic to myself and try and get it finished before Christmas.

This morning I found a lovely e mail in my inbox from someone who's not even on my friends list

Hi,

I wanted to let you know how sorry I am that you've been embroiled in a recent kerfuffle about plagiarism. It must be terribly hard on you.

Years ago, when I was in the Buffy fandom, I wrote a short story. A week later, another short story appeared that had the same two characters in the same setting at the same time (episode based) discussing very similar things.

My first thought was plagiarism. Then I caught my breath and realized that we'd had pretty much the same idea and there really was only so many ways to present that idea. Later, I was writing a story when someone else posted something similar. I decided not to post mine because I was worried about the plagiarism charge (and I think they did a better job with it than I was doing.)

Similar ideas happen. That's part of fandom.

Anyway - I'm sorry that the other author didn't take a minute or day or week to catch her breath and think it over before making accusations.
