Mar. 13th, 2006 10:48 pmFor some reason there's a whole stack of programmes about Kenneth Williams on TV tonight. Don't know whether this it's an anniversary of something to do with him but anyway, I've been a fan ever since I was a kiddie and watched him in the Carry On film. Then, when I was older, I saw a documentary about his life and something touched me. I can't remember what it was now but I became fascinated with him. I read his diaries when I was at university and it was just such a sad story. A man so desperate to be loved but at the same time almost ashamed of his homosexuality despite his outrageous and camp act on screen and stage. He died never having found that love and never being fully comfortable with himself either
There was a dramatisation of his diaries on tonight and whilst the script and direction was excellent I wasn't overly impressed with the actor playing Kenneth. He got all the voices and the faces right but there was just something that didn't quite fit. I don't know.
Anyway, if you're a fan and haven't read the diaries I recommend it. Although the idea of my diaries (not LJ, my private ones) being published when I die is a horrible concept
Going to bed now.
