Ok, seriously, WHY has Johnny Depp never been nominated for an Oscar? This isn't because I think he's pretty, the man is clearly a genius. I've been saying this for years now. He's the best character actor out there and as usual he shone in this film, even when he was all syphilitic and ikky towards the end.

It was a strange film. Lots of references to sex and many uses of the 'c' word but not actually many overall sex scenes.

It was obvious they'd deliberately excluded any homosexual scenes aside from a few pointed looks and one gentle caress. Because obviously gay sex is too much in a film about a man who shagged and drank himself to death

Jack Davenport was being his usual cute self. Definitely in Norrington mode for this movie

Geoff from Coupling (Richard Coyle) was playing Johnny's manservant. Stupid me didn't recognise him until near the end

John Malkovich plays an EXCELLENT King Charles. I've loved him (John, not King Charles) ever since I first saw Dangerous Liaisons many years ago

Samantha Morton was great! So good to see her being a bitch instead of a sap for once

Overall, an excellent if not slightly odd film.
