mock_the_stupid. It was just painful to read
Okay, I've met some ignorant people in my life, but today...well I was surprised to say the least. I was in my Lit class and we were talking about the Bill of Rights, specifically the eighth amendment's protection against cruel and unusual punishment. Well somehow we got onto the subject of Abu Ghraib (yea it's old, I know but somehow we started discussing it). The professor asked, "How many of you think what happened at Abu Ghraib was cruel and unusual punishment?" The majority of the class raised their hand, but one girl looked confused and asked, "Abu what? Isn't Abu the monkey from Aladdin?" Yea that's right, she thought we were talking about Aladdin. After a very brief explanation from the prof., the girl decided to respond again, "Well, what's so bad about torturing people? As long as we get that guy we're looking for it should be okay." So we all look at her like she's nuts. One person goes, "We ALREADY got Saddam." She looked over, "Well duh, we didn't get him. He died when he flew that plane into that building in New York." The professor couldn't stop laughing and he dismissed us early. This girl is in college, so by now she has to be at LEAST 18...you'd think she'd be a little more educated.
