Now, I don't have a problem with taxes in principle, we need to find the money to pay for our services somehow. What does bug me is when we get stung in the ass for somewhere around 25% of our wages and it pays for chuff all.

Let's consider some of the things our taxes pay for

Health Service - We have stupidly long waiting lists, you have to wait somewhere around 2 years to register with an NHS dentist and for a similar amount of time for some operations. So, you either wait or you go private which means paying more money on top of your tax

Education - Our schools are continually failing to meet the mark in our standards of education. Teachers aren't paid enough, they don't have enough resources and we have the highest teen pregnancy rate in Europe because it's considered immoral to teach young people about safe sex

Police - I've been burgled twice in the last few years, in different houses and on neither occasion was the burglar caught. Not a day goes by when you don't hear some awful tale about a little old lady being beaten up for her pension money and at the moment criminals appear to have more rights than we do. If you defend your home from a thief you will likely find yourself arrested too.

Council Tax - Does anyone actually know what this is for? Apparently it's to pay for things that our income tax doesn't cover. Aside from ensuring our bins are emptied I really don't see what else it does. All I know is that we're paying just over £1000 per year for not a great deal, and this is AFTER we've paid our 25%

It seems to me that we'd be better off keeping the 25%, since it doesn't appear to be paying for much more than going to war in Iraq
