Photoshop help

Can anyone give me some help on fixing up my convention photos? At the moment the quality of the Q and A pics is kind of like this



I've heard Photoshop should be able to help me lighten and sharpen them but I have NO idea how to use it. Hints and tips would be greatly appreciated
