Jun. 21st, 2003 11:28 pmSorry to harp on about this but there's one minor gripe about the HP book that I need to get off my chest before I go to bed
Is it me or was the whole hype about the character death just a gimic to get people to buy the books. I may be speaking out of line here, but I would imagine that whilst most people were saddened by Sirius' death, those not heavily involved in the fandom would not be devastated by it.
I don't know, it just struck me that the whole thing was phrased in a way that indicated a MAJOR character was going to die. And by that most people interpreted it to be someone who's been in it since the beginning. Out of ALL the people I've spoken to, not one suggested Sirius. They all said Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Dumbledore or Snape.
Just strikes that they played on the death thing in order to sell more books, and I have to say I probably would have held off reading it until my holiday were it not for the fact that I HAD to know who died.
Well, it was a good peice of marketing if nothing else. I just feel a little used.
