Have just been inspired by Flick's life plan and have been doing some contemplation myself.
First of all having done some calculations I've realisised that even if I write one chapter of my Buffy series a week, it's still going to take me about 6 months to get it finished.
Since I don't want to wait that long before I start my novel, and since I don't want to quite the series I need to come up with some sort of alternative. So, the general plan now is to write fic during the week, and the novel at the weekend. The weekend is when I tend to be more focused so I think that's the best idea.
Then there's the issue of my job. I considered quitting until I realised that it's actually pretty good like this. I have a job with minimum responsibility and although the pay is shite I don't have to think about it once I've left the office. I get all my weekends off so I can write.
So there we go. Starting next weekend I begin my life as a 'serious writer'
