Hockey Road Trip - Day 5
Feb. 4th, 2017 10:50 amEarly start because it was a looooong drive to Toronto and we wanted to avoid the rush hour traffic. We had a quick breakfast and then hit the road.
We were very happy when we crossed into Ontario and the road signs were no longer soley in French :D

Montreal to Toronto was the longest drive of the trip so, because we are giant dorks, we had a bit of a singalong when we hit the halfway point
Not long after this we stopped for the traditional Tim Hortons break :D

Hilariously because we were halfway between Montreal and Toronto they had to sell double the hockey to cover all bases

It was a pretty straightforward drive apart from construction right next to the hotel which made getting in a little tricky, but we made it pretty much unscathed.
redeem147 met us at the hotel and gave us a walking tour of Toronto as we headed to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
I won't bore you all with the dozens of photos I took but here's some of the more exciting Pens stuff that we saw

One of Sid's old jerseys

One of Sid's new jerseys

Geno's gloves from 2009

One of baby!Sid's jerseys

2016 Stanley Cup Champions ring

Geno's helmet from 2009

Murray's gloves from 2016

Stanley Cup Champion Phil Kessel's stick from 2016

Carl Hagelin's skates from 2016
It was all very exciting and there was much flailing. Even more exciting was the fact that The Stanley Cup was there. We thought it was travelling but it turns out they have two. One that travels all the time and one that lives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. So exciting.

You could have your photo taken with the cup so of course we did. And we just happened to be wearing our 2016 Stanley Cup Champions shirts. What a coincidence :D

Afterwards we hit the shop and I have to say I was pretty well restrained. Mostly because I was trying to save all my money for Pittsburgh where I anticipated (correctly) that I would be spending a lot of money

I am amused that I bought Phil Kessel in Toronto and took him to Pittsburgh :D

Look at how cute little Lego!Phil is though :D
Once we were done spending money we went for a walk under the city because it was cold outside. It's pretty cool that Toronto has a whole underground mall. We eventually settled on Swiss Chalet for dinner because one of
makaze77's friends had told us to try it.
We had a nice, relaxed meal because we were waiting for one of my friends that I used to work with at Random Acts to meet us and she was at work. Also, we were all pretty tired from the long drive and the hockey squee.

Every time I've been to Toronto (this was my 3rd visit) I've had poutine and I didn't want to break that tradition. Also, this is a side dish wtf it's huge!

You know you're in Canada when even the ketchup is hockey ketchup
My friend Lori finally joined us and I felt bad because not long after she got there we were ready to leave. We did have time for a chat though and it was lovely to meet her in person.
We'd initially had plans to visit the aquarium or the CN Tower but we were all so tired we decided to just wander back to the hotel and relax.
I have to say the view from our window was impressive when we arrived but it looked even more amazing at night

And there were hot tubs on the roof which we decided not to partake in because it was freezing but the view was fantastic

I have to say that the Toronto hotel was the fanciest of all the ones we stayed in (it had a kitchen, and a little living room area) but the wifi was crap. Wouldn't even let me upload my photos :/

So after a couple of tries of trying to post my photos to FB I gave up and fell asleep

Date: 2017-02-05 08:12 pm (UTC)I used to work at the HHoF (years & years ago!) and you can tell the difference between the "road" cup and the "home cup" because the "road cup" has all kinds of typos & dents. (When the Devils won in the 90's, one player drunkenly tried to peel the silver plating off with a can opener.)
The underground city is a great blessing to Toronto in winter!
