Hockey Road Trip - Day 4
Feb. 2nd, 2017 08:52 pmIt snowed overnight when we were in Vermont which, being an English person who is unused to Weather, concerned me a bit.
morganoconner and
makaze77, however, were amused by the silly English person freaking out over a 'dusting' of snow

Before and after

I think we were all a bit anxious about getting across the border into Canada but it was mostly okay. It wasn't very well signposted so we ended up in the lane that was supposed to be used by trucks and the border guy was a bit snarky with us about it but it didn't take us long to get through.
Driving in Montreal was a bit stressful for poor
morganoconner because the roads were snowy and all the signs were in French. But we made it to our hotel unscathed and took some time to relax before changing into our Pens jerseys for the game before we headed back out into the snow.
makaze77 was a life saver and figured out where we needed to go to get the Metro, which train we needed and where we needed to get off for the Biodome.

The Biodome was actually really cool. It's basically like an indoor zoo. Loads of different kinds of animals and birds.
THEY HAD OTTERS! For those of you who don't know (lol) otters are my FAAAAAAAAAVE. I probably could have stayed there all day and eventually had to be dragged away so we could look at other things :-p

And, of course, they had penguins.

Funny story: While I was waiting outside the shop in the Biodome these guys walked past me and started shouting things in French. I was posting something on my phone and didn't even really register them so they started booing. At this point I was mostly confused. It was only after they'd gone that I realised I'd taken my coat off so I was standing there in the middle of Montreal wearing a Phil Kessel Pens jersey. After that I was just highly amused :D
After the Biodome we had a bit of time to kill before the game so we decided to go to the Habs old arena which has now been turned into a mall. I know the Habs aren't our team (or even on the list of teams we like) but it was a hockey road trip and history so *hands*
It was actually pretty cool. They'd left some of the old seating in so you could see what it used to look like

And they had a Tim Hortons so of course we had to. In fact whenever we stopped for a break in Canada we went to Tim Hortons if one was available :D

After that it was time for the game. My first ever Pens game OMG I was so excited! I wish I could tell you the specifics of what happened in the game but a) I doubt many of you care and b) I can't really remember as it's all a squeeful blur. I do know they beat the Habs 4-1 and towards the end loads of the Habs fans got fed up and walked out. And I know I took a ton of pics (I'll just share a couple here - with a few more over on my Tumblr)
Oh, and this happened :D

:D :D :D :D :D :D

The final score
I might not remember the specifics of the game and who scored etc but I do remember that watching it I suddenly understood why people get so into their sports. There's a buzz watching a game that's not like anything I've ever experienced before. It's different to being at a con or anything like that. I mean it helps that my team won both games we went to but IDK it's just awesome being there and being able to cheer for your guys and show them support.
And I have to say the guys sitting next to me in Montreal were Habs fans but they were very polite and kept saying things like 'good goal' when the Pens scored. I think they were just happy to be watching some hockey tbh.
