We can't usually afford to do much in a given month regardless but I'll gladly save any money we would have spent to help this cause. Megaupload was just the beginning. If we don't make our voices heard now the internet will soon change and it won't be for the better.

*hugs*

Can I convince you to make a second post, amending this one? Boycotting SOPA and PIPA supporting companies is fantastic, but a blanket boycott hurts independent artists and small business owners. (morgandawn wrote a post that has more info!)

I am absolutely supporting the fight against SOPA and PIPA, but about Megaupload I would like to reserve judgement. Is it really about piracy? The fact is that a corporation with large income will often attract less scrupulous people who like to make the most out of the money stream, regardless of the company's business. We have seen plenty of that lately. I am rather sceptical that all these countries would have co-operated if there wasn't something in the more serious charges, like money laundering.
I don't think the Black March will really hurt the right owners, these days they can not depend on that income anyway. And very few small businesses is only selling disks these days, not enough money in it anyway.
