Back from Haworth and I am sleepy. It's been a long day.

Haworth is a very strange place. Has anyone else been there recently? It feels like it's stuck in time. It's got a very Victorian feel to the town. I'm not sure I liked it. It's quaint but sort of overshadowed by the bleakness of the surrounding moors. I can definitely see how Emily was inspired to write Wuthering Heights.

The actual museum was pretty neat. There's loads of clothes, personal belongings and letters you can look at. Sadly you weren't allowed to take pictures inside but I took some of the town.

Bought a copy of the book of Wuthering Heights because I haven't actually read it, although I've seen a couple of films. Apparently there's a new TV seriel of it coming out this Autumn and Burn Gorman is going to be in it.

I wrote my A-Level coursework on Jane Eyre and I read The Tennant of Wildfell Hall over one summer but that's it. Any of the other Bronte stuff any good?

The outside of the museum. For those who don't know the Bronte's father was the town curate so their house backed on to the church and cemetery

I normally like walking through cemeteries but this one was just so...I dunno...odd.

The church where Charlotte and Emily are buried

See what I mean about the old feeling? Check out the guy singing outside as well

Inside the church

You can see how high up Haworth is

This guy was actually really good.

You can almost hear Cathy and Heathcliffe

I went about 20 years ago. Does that count as recent?

Hehe! I dunno. Did it feel weird when you went there?

Well. I've never read ANY Bronte but after seeing these photos, I think there's ANOTHER place in the UK I need to visit. Thanks for adding to the list!

Gosh I just adore your cemeteries and churches...

Hee!!! Yeah, I may gripe about our crappy weather but there's one thing about the UK is all the nice places to visit.

Great photos!

I read all of the Bronte sisters' novels in my teens and twenties and I enjoyed every one.

I looked at The Professor, Shirley and Villette in the shop but the summaries didn't grab me. Are they worth reading?

I was a lot younger when I read them, I'm not sure if I would enjoy them now. I don't know your taste in literature, generally speaking, so have no idea if you would enjoy them.

I was there about two and a half weeks ago. I enjoyed the museum, and the town was odd but interesting.

Agnes Grey
and
Villette
are worth reqading, and I very much liked
Shirley
.
The Professor
is pretty much for die-hard Bronteists, though.

Ooh thank you so much for these photos. I've never been and I'm a huge Bronte fan.
I visited Bath two years ago to do all the Jane Austen thingies (Anthony Stewart Head was in town at the time filming Persuasion), but I have yet to visit any Bronte sites.

Wow, you really do get a feeling that you've gone back in time don't you?

I can tell from your pictures that it must be an odd place...

Ahhhh... that's so lovely! I haven't been to Haworth since 1995 - but now I want to go back!

You haven't read Wuthering Heights? *look of shock and disbelief* And here you were giving me crap about my disdain for Jane Austen. :P
