Ok, I haven't read anyone elses reviews for this so let me know what you think.

Personally I wasn't taken with it, and I think that crazy feminist who talked about all the rape in Firefly would have a field day with this show. Notice how it's only girls who spend their days wandering around pliant and submissive until the men implant her with a personality, which is why I'm hoping it will get better. This is so not Joss

I have a five episode rule for new shows. If I'm not into it by the end of episode five it gets ditched from my viewing schedule.

I was amused to see Tahmoh Penikett though after I made all those jokes about him being in everything.

Ya know, I didn't notice that right off, but you're right and that's a tad disconcerting. Overall, I thought the episode started off really slow and didn't become interesting at all until about 30 min in. A lot of bad dialogue and unnecessary exposition. Hope it gets better, but if not, I'm with you 5 episodes and I'm cutting it.

It was certainly not the banging opener I was expecting. I'm hoping it will get better

There were guys there ... wandering around and showering with the girls at the end ...

I'm intrigued by it ...

I'll be willing to retract my opinion if we find out more about those guys. We don't know if they're victims of mindrape or if they just work there

All the dolls are victims of mindrape, gender non-specific.

Just dl'ing the pilot. A lot of people I talked to said that it's nice entertainment but nothing more. Nothing that glues you to the screen but something that you can watch when nothing else is on.

Let's wait and see.

Yeah, it didn't grab me but it might get better

There were men wandering around.

[livejournal.com profile] dollhouse_meta As a crazy feminist, I think that the message is going to be inherently feminist.

Well, it'll have to get a bit more interesting to keep me watching. We'll see how it goes

I didn't watch it but the reviews I've read suggest it's been hacked about a bit, and that it does get better

Yeah, I'm willing to try it for a bit more :)

Unfortunately, I think it is. He likes to put it about that he is the great emancipator of women, but I think he is actually a closet mysoginist. Tell me just one of his women characters who is strong, a positive role model and healthy! All of his female characters end up warped in some way. Or dead. Sometimes more than once... because killing them once is not enough. *rolls eyes*

I haven't had great expectations of Dollhouse, and it sounds just as bad as I was expecting.

Yeah [livejournal.com profile] jacqui_hw just said exactly the same thing when I was telling her about it

Thank you for saying one of the things that I've been afraid to say for a long time. 8-)

There are male actives, they're just not really shown in the first episode. Although if you look at the room where Echo walks around in, you can see a few boys. Their names are based on the NATO phonetic alphabet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_phonetic_alphabet), so we know that at least a few of them will be boys (I can't see a girl being called "Victor"). There are some discussion going around on [livejournal.com profile] dollhouse_tv.

It's interesting that you should say this, because there are actually a lot of discussions wherein Joss's preference for writing strong female characters was mentioned. And they say this in reference to Dollhouse as well. I do, however, see where you're coming from, but although it is the "man" who implants the Actives with these personalities, is it not true that it is De Witt - a woman - who heads this organization?

In any case, I didn't think the pilot was very good. It was hacked apart so much that it just didn't move very well, wasn't as smooth as I'd have expected and there were a few plot holes. Still, I'm a Joss Whedon fan, so I have faith that the other episodes will be better. We'll see. I'll be very disappointed if it ends up not being very good.

Oh, yeah, as a Joss fan I'm not ready to give up on it just yet but it wasn't a good start

I got halfway through the episode and changed the channel. I really wanted to like it but it just didn't capture my interest. That and the cuts between commercials that had half naked Eliza Dushku sprawled across the screen...

I don't think I'm that much of a rabid feminist and I don't mind naked women on shows, but I couldn't stop rolling my eyes. LOL

I personally quite liked it.

I liked the slightly darker tone that it was going with myself, how it's not the typical Joss fare.

I'm willing to stick with it - for as long as it's around anyway. I get the feeling it's going to end up getting cancelled. But that's probably because I'm a cynical Browncoat.

Someone was saying the ratings were pretty poor so I suspect it will get cancelled too
